I'm still on the planet

Posted by Irene Gallway on March 6, 2015 at 6:48pm 0 Comments

Hi ladies, just checking in to say hello.  Bud had a couple of strokes the end of January and spent two weeks in the hospital in Calais, 4 weeks in Bangor and was transported to a nursing home in Machias 50 miles from here this week.  Bangor was a hundred miles away so being closer means i can visit him more often.  He is getting rehab but is not making a lot of progress.  His dementia is getting worse so the chance of him coming back home is questionable at the moment.

I have been…

Why is it so hard to say no?

Posted by Linda Christianson on March 6, 2015 at 12:45pm 3 Comments

The phone rang last Saturday with a request to help with the Fashion Club outfits.  We are using tulle. Only I thought it was helping the girls sew their own skirt in tulle. The teacher did not tell me on the phone or I missed the part she wanted me to make, now wait for the number, 25 students with design ideas skirts. All in the next five week, sooner really so they can add to them and model (walk)in them. I had to relate I really can not make 25 special skirts by taking all my machines…

Making a 16 1/2" block

Posted by Joanna liguz on March 6, 2015 at 5:52am 10 Comments

Good Morning Ladies,

I am wondering how does one go about figuring out how to make a 16-1/2 quilt block? I am trying to make a Ohio Star block and I am not good at trying to make bigger blocks. I went on line and they all give you 12" blocks so that does me no good. When I first started quilting, I make 16" blocks, but I can't seem to find them any more. Either that or they don't exist. I want to teach my girls about different block sizes that they can make and try different sizes.…

Can anyone else relate?

February Quilt 'til you Wilt

Posted by Rebecca Sundberg on March 5, 2015 at 4:00pm 8 Comments

Our quilting group met on Saturday for February’s Quilt ‘til you wilt. We didn’t have a huge crowd this time, as several of our regulars were on holidays.  One of our members was actually touring India!  I’m afraid I wilted pretty early and missed the delicious lasagna dinner that Sonja had prepared for us.   But from 10 a.m. until I left, lots of things happened.  Betty showed us her latest quilt.…

Gosh, Where is Everybody?

Posted by Carol Ann Hinton on March 4, 2015 at 3:08pm 11 Comments

There have been very few posts this week -- Are we all off doing something interesting?  (Thank you, Peggy, for your weekly endeavor!)  I was sorting through some photographs, and I stumbled upon this one, taken at the Outdoor Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon, in 2009 or so.  I have been there three times.  It is always the second Saturday in July -- can be really hot; maybe windy; very rarely threatening rain, so they always hang the quilts.

This is a store front on the main drag…

Advice needed to start a Dear Jane quilt

Posted by June Johnson/Wi on March 2, 2015 at 7:00pm 7 Comments

I'm pretty sure I'm going to dive into doing a Dear Jane quilt.  I bought the book from a quilting friend and have started collecting appropriate fabrics.  Need advice:  Do you hand piece the blocks or machine piece?  Do you cut and piece or do you paper piece?  Does paper piecing offer more accuracy ?

Thanks in advance.
