Conceded defeat, for now...on to Plan ?????

Posted by Prairie Quilter/NE on May 22, 2015 at 6:27pm 5 Comments

Hey, everyone.  Thanks so much for the encouragement and empathy in my last post about the wedding quilt.  I worked hard on it these past 2 days and finished tying it late this afternoon - only to have it come off the frame with the same issues - if not worse - than the last quilt.  The difference is that I could live with the last quilt being bubbled, since I'd used a fluffy batt in it anyway.  It was intended to be somewhat fluffy - like a comforter.  This one was not.  It is more formal…

Recalculating...

Posted by Prairie Quilter/NE on May 20, 2015 at 4:45pm 12 Comments

That word has been going through my mind today since DS mentioned it after discussing the wedding quilt and my design miscalculation of fabric availability.  Apparently WILLING oneself to have enough fabric does not necessarily  mean there WILL be enough.

This is a project with a deadline.  Saturday.  This Saturday.  I started it last Monday after sending the graduation quilt on its way.  It is a big block quilt - nothing fancy or difficult.  I'm down to the last border and have…

Posted by Joy Gross on May 19, 2015 at 9:09pm 9 Comments

Nice to be back again.. We have had a lot of changes going on. New Dog.. New City.. New house.. new Neighbors.. Buying selling houses yikes husband retired (YAY).  As soon as hubby retired we went to Arizona for 2 months of sunshine and nothing we HAD to do, it was wonderful. We came home to our new home and started the unpacking process, still working on that :)  Happy to say that my sewing room is almost completely unpacked and organized.

A Big "Thank You" to Peggy Stuart!

The photographs she included in her April 20th blog post had me immediately scouring the internet and ordering one of the featured panels along with some coordinating fabrics for another quilt for little Sophia.  The Boyd’s Bears panel caught my fancy, partly because my DDiL collects bears of all kinds, including Boyd’s Bears, and I just knew that she’d really appreciate a ‘bear’ quilt for her wee daughter and partly because I really liked  the panel.  The fabrics arrived last…

High Fiber—Spinning My Wheel or Spinning My Wheels?

Posted by Peggy Stuart on May 18, 2015 at 8:30am 11 Comments

My mother had an expression she used when she felt like she had worked all day and hadn't accomplished anything. She said she felt as if she were spinning her wheels (and not the kind of wheels that produce yarn. That's how my week has been.

However, I did get some work done on my First…

When I think of all twelve Little Quilts, the June Little Quilt the easiest. However, in my following alterations, made it a bit more challenging for those of you who desire a different take on this pattern. If…

Sunrise Stitchers

Posted by Irene Gallway on May 18, 2015 at 4:24am 6 Comments

Last Sat. our sewing club took several baby quilts and two or three larger quilts to the Shepherds Godparent home in Bangor. We were given a tour of the facility and met some of the residence and their babies.  It's a home for young girls to have their babies and have a place to stay while they pursue an education or get on their feet financially. The home is run entirely on donations. L-R in gray top, resident of home. Peggy Coleman, Sara Cameron, Irene Gallway, Mary McLellan, resident of…

What do you save?

Posted by Linda Christianson on May 17, 2015 at 4:41pm 12 Comments

I went through my fashion patterns trying to make myself downsize. I told myself 90% have to go, end up with half? It is hard for me to run to Jo-Ann 45 min away for the special $1 or bit more price, when I am in the fashion mood. I did save all the bag, hats and few children/ baby patterns. What would you save if room was more important.

I have sorted my scrapes into small bins or drawers and most end pieces are sewed together. I just need to come up with the right pattern to use it…
