Tracks in the Garden

Posted by Joanne Grimes on August 21, 2014 at 9:39pm 0 Comments

Hi, Sorry it's been awhile. I spent most of the summer outdoors with family working on all sorts of projects. We had lots of fun. Now I can get back to the sewing board.

Anyway I just finished a quick little embroidery project.

Like a kid in a candy store!

The Mariner Compass quilt is quilted.  It took me a bit longer than planned, hummm they always seem to do that to me.  All I need to do now is find the material I was using so that I can make the binding and get that put on the quilt and call it finished.  I ran into some problems with this one.  Sense it is set on point, I had to turn the quilt to get to the side setting triangles and had problems with the tension once it was turned.  I will work on that on the next quilt. I'm hoping to…

Back to School

Posted by Mary McIntyre on August 20, 2014 at 12:47pm 8 Comments

Today it the first day of school for my kids. It marks the end of what seems like a very short summer. Seriously, where did summer go? I had made a mental list of things I wanted to accomplish this summer, both in my sewing room and around our small farm. I didn't make many scratch lines through that list. But I can't account for the hours I seem to have lost either. I still haven't quilted my daughter's graduation quilt, because the new leaders I needed (wanted) are not installed on my… Continue

Birthday Cake

Posted by Janie Scoggin on August 20, 2014 at 12:00pm 15 Comments

My daughter, who is not a quilter, made me this cake for my birthday.  The scissors are real but everything else is cake, fondant and modeling chocolate.  It was delicious.  I would not let them cut my…

Our remodeling is finally finished ...

Posted by Pam/NY on August 20, 2014 at 9:58am 14 Comments

Have been remodeling two bathrooms and first floor laundry this summer. What a project...I can't be happier how everything turnout, especially the master bath. We took out the bath tub and put in a spa shower with a full bench. The door to the room was repurposed wood from an old 1900's train station. I bought the barnstrappings from Ohio on ebay. The handle came from New Orleans. The picture of the tin ceiling tiles came from a 150 yr. old hotel in Sandusky, Ohio. I designed this room, but…

The stowaways

Warning – do not read if you have an aversion to rodents. LOL.

Back in early June, we had a short camping trip ( mentioned in one of my earlier blog posts) to Barkerville, BC.  What I didn’t mention at the time was that not only did the motor home transport DH and me, plus our two Irish Setters, Bailey and Lyric, to Barkerville and back, but also a family of mice!  They were living in a neat little nest in the engine compartment, and at night they’d sneak out and search for anything…

If you could ask...

Posted by Prairie Quilter/NE on August 18, 2014 at 2:43pm 5 Comments

At the estate auction I previously mentioned, my sister-in-law asked my cousin (the daughter of the deceased) if there was anything she'd like to ask her mother about after all of the sorting and cleaning of the home place.   My cousin replied that she'd ask her the story behind the obviously very, very old cedar chest that was stored in a corner of the garage attic (of all places) that held her mother's childhood mementos, along with baby blankets/quilts, and other keepsakes.  None of the…
