Advice needed to start a Dear Jane quilt

Posted by June Johnson/Wi on March 2, 2015 at 7:00pm 1 Comment

I'm pretty sure I'm going to dive into doing a Dear Jane quilt.  I bought the book from a quilting friend and have started collecting appropriate fabrics.  Need advice:  Do you hand piece the blocks or machine piece?  Do you cut and piece or do you paper piece?  Does paper piecing offer more accuracy ?

Thanks in advance.

Lost my sew-jo, got cabin fever, and being an all around GROUCH!!

OOOO I wish I could txt, email, tweet, snap, pin, post something to ol' Mother Nature.  She's made me lose my sew-jo, and at moments I don't even want to hang around with myself for fear I will cuss myself out.

Luckily in a few weeks I will be at the International Quilt…

Running in circles and another chance to win

I haven't been here for a while. I feel like I've been on a huge treadmill. Dashing here, running there, falling on the ice (I'm fine but I landed flat on my back before I knew I was falling). Not much quilting going on.

But, when I was standing still for a moment, I ended up with a three new projects from our quilt guild--make an applique block, do a challenge with HIDEOUS FABRICS, and participate in a mystery quilt. Damn.

I've almost finished the table quilt I'm supposed to…

As I mentioned earlier, my camera battery died and I lost half of what I had taken, so I redid the block.  I found that I wasn't happy with my sample block and redid it in Pinks.

And here is how I cut it.  Remember for Color 4, you will need four 4.5 inch strips plus one 2.5 inch…

Good Morning!

Last night as I was taking pictures for the first steps, my camera battery went dead and I had to recharge it overnight. Now it is recharged and only half of what I took was saved. But here is what I have so far.

NOTE: I found it very useful to use a tag to keep track of my colors and cut up an index card into 4 pieces and wrote down what each unit needs as it will be the same all the time and makes it easier to keep track of what you…

As promised, here are some colors that I am considering for the quilt.

There are a few that are thinking of doing this in brights and  you can if you like, but in order for this to work, you need dark, medium and light fabrics.  Keep in mind that as you cut your fabric, you will need 2.5 inch strips and 5 inch charms and as you cut them, keep them in separate piles according to color.  Such as dark blue, medium blue and light blue and so on.…
