Quilt With Us

what are you working on today?

i am working on a bizarre january holiday postcard swap. i am planning on celebrating national pie day. the feast of fabulous men day sounds interesting...i saw some fabric with muscular handsome firemen at the quilt shop sunday, but their pectoral muscles are too big for the 4 x 6 inch card.

Sound interesting Polkadot I never heard of National Pie day or puzzle day. Right now I am working on placemat to match a table runner I made. Also have a log cabin in the frame to start quilting.
I have to agree with Annette, I never heard of National Pie day or Puzzle day either. Or that feast of fabulous men day ! LOL WHERE do they hold that one?

I'd love to hear more about that January holiday postcard swap.
i actually host postcard swaps on hgtv and cafemom. i would be willing to host one here as well but i am not sure they do swaps here. each month i pick a category. we did a holiday postcard swap in december, back to school in september, halloween. i thought i would do something different and host a bizarre holiday swap. i got the idea from this site: http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/january.htm and just picked 10 that sounded interesting.
has anyone made quilted postcards?
No I have never made quilted post cards but it sounds very intresting.
Feel free to start a swap. You can use Groups and set one up, or use Discussions - either will work.

Here is my version of quilted postcards (nothing like some of the works-of-art postcards I have seen!). :-) Or perhaps I should say fabric postcards, because I really only used Wonder Under to stick the fabrics together, didn't quilt them. But I did use my sewing machine to stick the three layers together, so maybe that counts.
Oh Nikki they are beautiful. I've got to learn how to them.
Mine are very basic! I just copied them from some samples at a quilt store. Its just three layers - the top is fabric, the middle is some squishy stuff that I can't think of the name of right now (fusible interfacing or fusible web? and be sure to get the double-sided fusible kind), and the bottom is just a piece of cardstock cut to postcard size. Once you decorate the top like you want, stack all three layers together (cardstock on bottom), iron them so they stick pretty well together, and sew around the edge.

To do the top, I just ironed some cute snowman fabric onto Wonder-Under, cut out the shapes I wanted, then peeled off the back of the Wonder Under and ironed the shapes onto the fabric that makes the top layer of the postcard. Then I put the three layers of the postcard together, ironed & sewed, and added glittery puff paint. The black stich lines were just with a Sharpie.

They are adorable!

These are very cute!
OK, so I should've looked at the discussions before I asked if anyone had done postcards. I want to learn to do them, how they work, how you mail them, etc. Thanks, Debbie
Debbie~
Look on My Page - I gave a detailed description of how I make mine. They are way too much fun to make, addicting is all I can say!
If you have any other questions and I can be of help, fell free to ask!
