My favorite is applique and Sunbonnet Sue is my favorite applique block. I also am very fond of string blocks that are very scrappy. I find that doing string blocks requires little thinking and sometimes that is just what I need. BTW, what is you favorite?
I tend to like blocks that are simple, one of my favorites is the disappearing 9 patch. I have made several Drunkard's Path quilts, several fan quilts. I made a Lone Star quilt, had no trouble with it, and enjoyed it so much that I cut out another right away. Mistake!!! When I started to put it together, nothing worked, guess my cutting was off. Anyway, it was so bad that I couldn't get it going at all and eventually I did something else with my stripes. I intend to try again, but I am going to be really careful with the cutting.
What is the disappearing nine patch? I don't think I've heard of that one. So far I've only made simple quilts, sewing blocks together. I want to make a log cabin quilt but I'm not good combining colors. I've bought one of those color wheels but haven't taken the time as of yet to study it.
Hi Zarina. This is Lowell. I have made pinwheels. I have made it easier to sew them by starting in the middle where all the points are then turn it over and sew from the middle again. It makes an easier and even seam allowance..
Take a look at this tutorial online about the disappearing 9-patch. Can't beat this for an easy block when you are stumped for inspiration or have a big scrap stash. You can make the nine patch in any size, imagine the possibilities!
