Quilt With Us

I'm looking for some guidance on sergers. I've been thinking about getting one, but am not sure just how much I'd use it. Anyone out there have one? Do you use it often? Any suggestions as to brand? Currently I have 2 Janome machines and love them. I'd like to hear any pros or cons from you all. Thanks for any info.

If you are going to make a lot of garments they can be worthwhile, otherwise, for quilting, not a priority.

I agree, when I make any clothing, they are wonderful to have! But now, I mostly quilt, so mine sits covered up, alot! I have a Babylock, that the bottom two threads, you stick the ends in tubes & it blows it through & threads them on the bottom! This is wonderful to have, so you might keep that in mind when you are looking at them... I do love mine, just don't use it much now....

Hello Nancy,

You have to think of a serger as an accesory sort of like the microwave is to your oven. You don't really need the microwave but is sure comes in handy. I love mine, in fact I would like to have 2, one for dark and one for light thread to keep from having to switch thread so often.

Hope this helps,
Jennnifer

Thanks everyone for the info. I'm thinking of making vintage looking purses and totes to sell so it was a thought for one of my designs. I need a good finish to some ruffle edges and my machine doesn't give me the actual look that I want. I may just wait a bit and see after I make a few and if they sell, whether I need to invest. Thanks again.
