It is addicting, isn't it?

I like the feather idea. There are so many different feather designs that you might want to consider two different types of feather designs, use a long plume design in the light areas and a smaller feather loop or swag on the darker. I have the CD's (got through CT) that have tons of hand stiching designs and love to see them mixed and matched. Even if you stay with straight diagonals, think about changing the colors of the threads. I love seeing the colors of the thread pick up the different colors of the fabric. I'm sure whatever you decide will be wonderful. I don't think I have ever seen a quilt I didn't like. A quilt to me is not in the perfection or the appearance, but, it is the work, the time and the love that it takes to make one.

Pixie,
I had to be nosie and see what you were up to with your bird quilt. I love it, you must be very creative since I would have never thought of using birds. I hope you will let us know when it is finished so we can see it again then. I have never liked to do outline quilting. So I always try to go for some kind of motif that crosses the seams. I think it is easier to do. I am piecing a scrappy quilt using a split nine patch pattern. Half of the block is light and the other half darks. I think it is going to end up in diagonal strips across the quilt, but I am waiting to see how many blocks I can make from my scraps. I was thinking of doing some kind of feather across the light strips, but I am not sure what to do in the dark areas. Any suggestions or remarks as to if I am heading in the right direction or if you have some great idea I would love to hear it. It will be a while till I get to the quilting since I am still cutting.

Joana, I agree with Budsgram, taking a shape, or several shapes, maybe using dark thread on the cream fabric and cream thread on the dark fabric. I am so thrilled with the result I am getting by quilting the different birds on my Birds in the Air quilt. Check it out on my page.

Joanna, post a picture. I can only "see" things when I can "see" them.

Maybe you could take a music note or some shape from the fabric and repeat it over the quilt.

Does anybody have a suggestion for handquilting a watercolor quilt. I've quilted the piano part of my daughter's dorm quilt once and had to take it out ( thank you again for the sympathy), but straight lines, diagonally across the little blocks is just boring. Also i'm thinking about quilting it in black--the quilt is mostly black and cream with tossed black music notes on cream on the backing. I would appreciate any ideas you are willing to share.

Sounds like you are really excited about doing your first block. Way to dig right in there.

I finished surging the fat quarters and am now drawing the applique for the Baltimore onto freezer paper today, hopefully I will get to cutting it out today. I go to therapy for my back this afternoon so the afternoon is shot for getting anything done. I am not sure what is planned for this evening. Maybe cutting out the freezer paper.

Feels good to finish up those projects, doesn't it? Looks good.
