BarbiThe reason I use a small iron is for the freezer paper and startch preparation in applique. By pressing the edges of your applique, you have a more defined edge. At least I do.SandraContinue

Hello everyone. I have been busy entering a contest at Havel Sewing. Please go to the link below and vote for me and my quilt "Summer Shade" I and #6. I have changed my profile pic to my quilt for now. Thanks and happy quilting.

Sue... if you're going to do applique', I'd suggest that you use machine satin stitch; it's what I use on all the baby quilts I make.

My son's girlfriend is going to be a grandmother making me a great grandmother.  He showed me an applique pattern that he loves that I will be making for the baby.  As of now I've only done needle turn applique.  What would be best for a baby quilt that I hope will be used.

Thanks,

Sue

I went to quilterscache.com and found a Sun Bonnet Sue Pattern.  I think this is a nice pattern for back baste applique.

I showed my quilting group the applique that I've begun (it's my first project) and they had never seen the back-basting method before either.  I was having a few problems with how to work my hands and making tight inside corners and they really helped with tips.  One thing I definitely found out that helped is finger pressing the edge as you undo the basting thread (and some material really doesn't cooperate).  I also tried the suggestion that someone said about using a chalk line an top of the basting stitch and that was very helpful.  I will continue that, but with a better pencil I think.  Just thought I'd let you know tips I discovered yesterday.  :-)
