Just wanted to take a moment, while I had one, to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Here is a charity called "Come and Sew" that is ministering to the orphanages in Russia. They are looking for baby sleepers, quilts for the children, small encouragement gifts for orphanage workers (potholders, notebook covers, etc.), and coloring bags (that hold crayons) for the kids.

Glenda,
You are correct most hospitals and nursing homes welcome any type of blanket - size and material. One I have worked with in the past have even request small wall hangings to decorate doors and walls with. There are just so many things to make to add a little sunshine to someones day and to show love to someone in need that you couldn't touch any other way.

Gina,
what a great idea about the lap throws for the veteran's...we have a hospital in the area and I'm sure they will welcome blankets of any size...I'm on a quest
thanks

Hello Everyone, I just joined Connecting Threads. One charity that I have recently started quilts for is Solider Angels. They send "Blankets of Belief" to the troops overseas, just to let them know they are thought of and some one does care for them. I hope to get in the groove of quilting again and make lap throws for the veteran's nursing homes in my area as well.

Hi Everyone.....I just found out about this group. I do lots of charity quilting, knitting and crocheting. I have a wonderful girl friend who joins with me making making thing. Today we went to the GoodWill and was surprised to find great finds for yarn and fabric.

I was a latecomer to this group, so I don't know if the Pink Slipper Project has been posted yet, but its something I just learned about today. They are in need of 80 women's slippers and 40 children's slippers by October 1st if anyone here can help out! http://www.pinkslipperproject.org/

I was looking at the different discussions and found this. I live in Ohio and have donated fabric to a friend who makes quilts for charities. This way, I'm doing something and hopefully this fall/winter, I'll have time to do a few to give to her to pass on. I love to piece the tops and backs, it's just the putting together part that I'm not fond of. Maybe I need a partner.

Hi all: I am new to Connecting Threads this week. I've been exploring the Scrap Bags group and just found you as I'm exploring. I am a blanketeer for Project Linus, Pasadena, CA Chapter. I love my charity group activities and members. Looking forward to learning from you all.

I got involved with our local hospital a couple years ago when a friend was having chemo. There was and still is a great need for hats for the patients, both adults and children. I went to one of our local window shops and had them make me plastic templates so they would last a long time. If any of you out there would like the patterns for sm. med. & lg. e-mail me with your home addy., and I would be more than happy to make you a copy and mail it to you. Happy Sewing
