A couple years ago I was President of our local quilt guild. At the end of the year the members make a block for the out-going President. I requested a strip block. When I got all the blocks pieced it ended up being 82"x82". I thought the circle quilting I did with my Gammill workstation made it kind of contemporary.
I'm really wanting to explore the modern/contemporary quilting format
Last year I joined an online black and white quilt challenge where we were allowed to use one other colour. I however was restricted by my black and white fabric stash, and I didn't want purchase more fabrics. Having browsed flickr I came across some great images and decided to go with a wonky block format - I loved 'Orange Crush' quilt by Jaquies (Tallgrass Prairie Studio) and was inspired by Amanda Jean (Crazy Mom Quilts) for the back.
I have sold a lot of my contemporary quilts. I was just commissioned to do a copy of a photograph to be placed under glass outside a suite of executive offices at work. I will upload that when I make some progress on it. I am still contemplating on how I am going to do a helicopter on it. I know, sounds weird, but it will be so cool when it's done. This is a picture of one I did last summer from my scraps. I hang it in my guess bathroom to impress my friends. Are they impressed? Who knows?
