Darlene's Slackers Quilt Along

Love those huge sampler quilts with tiny blocks (like a Dear Jane quilt) but don't feel quite up to making one? Then this group is for you! We will be making one using larger (six inch) blocks and our quilt will have ONLY 140 blocks.

Welcome Fellow Slackers!

Not up for doing two-hundred and twenty-five 4" blocks? Then this group is for you! We will be using Jennifer Chiaverini's book, Sylvia's Bridal Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts to make ONLY (?) one-hundred and forty 6" blocks. The challenge is to have the quilt finished in one year. We will officially begin on June 15, 2009 and finish on June 15 2010, however, please join in the fun anytime. You can see that I will be making mine from our new collection Hearth & Home but you can use anything you like. This quilt is a good way to use up all your scraps and in the end you will have an amazing quilt.

I will be making the blocks in the same order as they appear in the quilt not how they are alphabetically listed in the book but you are free to make them in any order you like. Each week pictures and tips will be posted in the Discussion Forum. Since some of you will be making them in the order they appear in the book or in no particular order we will include those blocks in the discussion too. A list of each block has magically appeared and you can post your tips and/or pictures under the blocks you made. Everyone is encouraged to add tips and/or pictures of their blocks. Our only rule is that each block has to be different. Let the fun begin!

Wow...the birthdays are really close together!
You are right about finding things to be thankful for....even the little stuff we take for granted like the heat, and water....there are so many places in the world that don't have those little luxuries that we are so accustomed to. I am glad you are having some family coming....but not so many that you will feel overwhelmed.

Our other son's birthday was last Sunday. Time is just flying by way to quickly.

I took tomorrow off to begin our dinner prep. Guess my sister and brother-in-law are expecting Mom to fix the meal and she just isn't up to doing it all. One of their son's is visiting so we will have three from that side of the family and the three of us so only 6 and maybe 7 a far cry from the 20 to 25 we usually feed. We have lost so much family this year but we are still thankful for a roof over our heads, heat in the house, running, clean water.

You all have a Happy Thanksgiving and really enjoy this time to think about all your blessing and remember those who have gone before. And, I hope you all can find time to make a few blocks! Thanks for sharing!

XOXOX Please do take care of yourself too sweetie....don't let stuff get you down. I know you are having tough times right now....but I'll be there soon to cheer you up and help you with your blocks!

Sounds as if everyone is busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. Me too. Mother's doctor was right on that I needed to watch her closely over these holidays. She has really been having a difficult time. I am too but I have her to focus on and she feels she has no one. My youngest has a birthday tomorrow (almost today now). He called a bit ago and he has a delivery in far Eastern Kansas in the morning and then is heading home. He has a very, very bad cold and is ready to park that rig for 4 days after being out for 4 weeks. Can't tell you all the places he has been but I know he has gone east to west and back 2 times this time out.

I've finally gotten my computer to get on-line again and have gotten caught up on all the posts. Now it is so late I bet everyone is in bed. Oh, well.

I'm so glad to see we have new members! WELCOME! The blocks posted are so very beautiful--all you 'complaining' about your blocks, just gather them up and send them to me. I'll be glad to adopt them for my quilt that only has 11 blocks done on it. Not much for all of these months of setting and looks at it.
