Darlene's Slackers Quilt Along

Love those huge sampler quilts with tiny blocks (like a Dear Jane quilt) but don't feel quite up to making one? Then this group is for you! We will be making one using larger (six inch) blocks and our quilt will have ONLY 140 blocks.

Welcome Fellow Slackers!

Not up for doing two-hundred and twenty-five 4" blocks? Then this group is for you! We will be using Jennifer Chiaverini's book, Sylvia's Bridal Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts to make ONLY (?) one-hundred and forty 6" blocks. The challenge is to have the quilt finished in one year. We will officially begin on June 15, 2009 and finish on June 15 2010, however, please join in the fun anytime. You can see that I will be making mine from our new collection Hearth & Home but you can use anything you like. This quilt is a good way to use up all your scraps and in the end you will have an amazing quilt.

I will be making the blocks in the same order as they appear in the quilt not how they are alphabetically listed in the book but you are free to make them in any order you like. Each week pictures and tips will be posted in the Discussion Forum. Since some of you will be making them in the order they appear in the book or in no particular order we will include those blocks in the discussion too. A list of each block has magically appeared and you can post your tips and/or pictures under the blocks you made. Everyone is encouraged to add tips and/or pictures of their blocks. Our only rule is that each block has to be different. Let the fun begin!

Karen - I do hold the paper and fabric to the light...after I sew and fold the fabric back I always seem to be short....so I rip, adjust, resew and it's still not long enough. I eventually get it right...but what's the trick for getting it right the first attempt?? LOL

Barbi - hold your fabric and papers up to a really bright light or to the window light so you can see through it to where your fabric is laying on the back side of the paper.

Just put the new fabric in the dryer. Been playing with my hair today too, trying to get a handle on styling this new link. Have DH's retirement luncheon coming up next week, plus a party that Sat., & Thanksgiving this week, so want it to look nice. Used my big hot rollers today & am happy with the results. Next, I will play with some makeup, since I don't wear it all that much now, lol. Amazing how you can get out of practice on this primping stuff, lol...

Don't feel bad, Barbi, you are not alone! Everytime I do it, no matter how long it's been, or if I just finished some, it's still easy to mess it up!

I need help understanding this paper piecing process. I am about to rip out for the fourth time on the Crow's Foot. If I am putting 1 and 2 together..on the backside of the paper pattern, which piece goes against the paper? Number one or two? And I can't seem to get the angles right either!! Help...
