Darlene's Slackers Quilt Along

Love those huge sampler quilts with tiny blocks (like a Dear Jane quilt) but don't feel quite up to making one? Then this group is for you! We will be making one using larger (six inch) blocks and our quilt will have ONLY 140 blocks.

Welcome Fellow Slackers!

Not up for doing two-hundred and twenty-five 4" blocks? Then this group is for you! We will be using Jennifer Chiaverini's book, Sylvia's Bridal Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts to make ONLY (?) one-hundred and forty 6" blocks. The challenge is to have the quilt finished in one year. We will officially begin on June 15, 2009 and finish on June 15 2010, however, please join in the fun anytime. You can see that I will be making mine from our new collection Hearth & Home but you can use anything you like. This quilt is a good way to use up all your scraps and in the end you will have an amazing quilt.

I will be making the blocks in the same order as they appear in the quilt not how they are alphabetically listed in the book but you are free to make them in any order you like. Each week pictures and tips will be posted in the Discussion Forum. Since some of you will be making them in the order they appear in the book or in no particular order we will include those blocks in the discussion too. A list of each block has magically appeared and you can post your tips and/or pictures under the blocks you made. Everyone is encouraged to add tips and/or pictures of their blocks. Our only rule is that each block has to be different. Let the fun begin!

Barbi, I was thinking of some of the ones, with lots of smaller blocks in them, you could just continue the row on out, like that, following that same design. Sounds like that would work to me. Or, do like a log cabin type border, adding another row of strips all around it. Lots of easy to do options, actually, if you really like a particular block...

I read the weekends' postings and I can't remember who was looking for music fabric but...our Joann's has some and Hancock's of Paducah (online) has some.

We don't get alot of snow here, very few snows each season, in fact. Now, with this having been a wetter year, all year, I am curious to see what this winter brings us? More snow, or just more of the same, rain, we have been getting all year? When it gets real cold here, DH always says,"If it's this cold, it should be snowing!", & I tend to agree! Snow kind of makes the cold all worth, around here anyway, where we don't see much of it to complain about otherwise. Everything shuts down here too, if snow is even in the forecast, really funny, not to mention all the bread & milk runs to the stores before they too, close. There was a so-called blizzard here in 93', without much warning, I've heard, so I think alot fo the locals still panic now. We just watch the news, & the sky, & stay home when it's best.....

I'm not as talented as some of you here Nancy, but I suppose I shouldn't throw-in-the-towel, so to speak, eh?

Barbi, I think you could substitute with these, just add another round, border, or maybe more blocks, of some sort. Just get creative....

Me, I will probably keep them for another little quilt project. They would make a cute, smaller quilt too...

Good Monday Blustery, Snowy Morning to all of my Slacker friends!!
Another weekend has passed and I'm glad its Monday so I can rest!! Isn't the Sabbath supposed to be a day of rest? Winter fell upon us yesterday with about five good inches of wet stuff. Today my youngest turns 12 years old so we had family over yesterday for celebration. Today my oldest (in med school) has a make-it or break-it exam. Makes me worry for him although prayer is the only thing I can do.
Nancy - I'm not thrilled to hear the Farmers Wife book blocks aren't the right size!! I was hoping to substitute some for SBS...darn!
Neta - Lady of the Lake is really pretty.

Hi Nancy! We are Cumming, northwest of Atlanta. Last summer we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway on our way back from Nova Scotia, Canada. You are lucky to live in such a great area. Those mountains are fabulous. Do you get much snow in winter?

Gico, beautiful looking blocks.

Hi Jennie, I think you will find that many of us in this group have multiple projects going at one time. I keep thinking in January I will have more time . . . probably wishful thinking.

I think Maxine lives at my house. Somedays I am the "screw-up."

Maryam, that is why my DH has his own "quilting" rulers out in the wood working shop.
