Kit: Cheese cake with Girl Scout cookies. Now there's a taste treat I'd like to try.

No need for a coaster pattern. cut 4 1/2 inch squares. sew them right sides together with a piece of batting (I used flannel). leave a space. Turn them right side out. Topstitch a smidge from the edge. That's it. Also works with a hexagon. I have trouble keeping round ones perfectly round but a CD makes a good template for cutting out rounds.

ranchmom: You got me. This old women's libber hates it when she makes assumptions based on old stereotypes. We almost had a woman president; why shouldn't women be cowpersons.

Froggie: Let me know when you're planning your trip and I'll join you in seeing the country. Remember Dinah Shore: "See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet. America is asking you to call."

Good Evening, Marguerite. I just came in, to see what's going on...Please tell your DGD I make a regular cut out sugar cookie...just change the flavoring to 1 tsp. Lemon....and 1/4 tsp. vanilla. The cookie dough should be put in the fridge for at least an hour...cut thick for a soft cake like cookie, and thin, for a crispy one. TN...I was down there years ago. DS1 was born there. April 1, 1957. Fond Memories...Anne

Hi everyone. Must be a pork kind of weather. My DD and SIL fixed a pork roast for my birthday dinner. My SIL did it on his rotisserie and was very good. We had pan baked potatoes with minced onions, broccoli and rolls. Then for dessert my DD made a cheese cake made with GS cookies - thin mints and lemon coolers. Was really good. Here I go talking about food and it is 8pm and I haven't eaten supper yet.

Anne - I told my DGD about your lemon snowmen cookies and she wants to know how to make them. She's really into snow right now since we have some here in middle TN.

That huge quilting party sounds like fun. Kit

Oh Mary Agnes what a yummy sounding meal! Lucky people to be invited to your house.

Linda - or do I call you Linda Froggy? I would love to have a pattern for
coasters, and especially if they are quick.

Hi everyone and welcome Elaine and Mary Alice, I hope you enjoy our "Gifty Site" as much as we do!

Froggie I thought that was the "Hen House" now you tell me I have to wait until I go to heaven for the giant quilting party.

It is great to read about all the food and traditions, it would be fun to be able to travel the US and see everyone and try the favorite foods of that area.

Mari and MaryAgnes, I am not cooking for that many cowboys right now, just my DH, DS#3 and DS#4, no hired man at this time, I will start cooking for Branding and round up crews in March, then sometimes it can be up to 25 cowboys, cowgrirls, and junior cowboys and cowgirls.

MMM, tea through sugar cubes. Now that would put anyone into a sugar high. I love the stories of everyone's traditions, I never knew about Russian, Ukranian.... traditions. I think I am going to convert to that potato sauteed in butter and onion. Where do I get that? Yum. Never had it. One day I am going to travel the US, stopping at everyone's house for some quilting time. And maybe those potatoes. Is this a quiliting site or eating site, anyway?

Well, Howdy, Elaine and Mary Alice! Welcome to the eating... Quilting group! We really make stuff here. Who has been quilting? DGS and I are going to make some cute little coasters today, we will post them when we finish them. They take about 5 minutes to make, no kidding. There may have been a pattern for them here, I think maybe MaryAgnes made some. Or maybe I dreamed it. Like the dream last night about a huge retreat, there were thousands of quilters, all brought their machines and projects, and we were at these huge tables quilting and laughing! It must have been heaven.
Hoppy quilting!

I meant to say Let's NOT talk food. Sorry for the (Freudina?) typo. There is something about cold weather and roast pork; they go so well together. Cold here too, but clear and envigorating. It'll make for a nice walk to my Quilters Guild meeting this afternoon. Think I'll leave my money home so I'm not tempted (as usual) by this month's vendor.

MaryAgnes~You are the biggest threat to my waistline since I joined this site! I swear I gained 5 more pounds just reading your description of dinner! ;o)

Elaine: So glad not to talk food here because I've been discussing tonight's dinner with my friends. I've settled on a stuffed roast pork loin, garlic mashed potatoes, and string beans. One guest is going to bring a homemade pecan pie; the other, wine. So, let's now talk food.
