Linda Froggie Quilter (Okla) Comment by Linda Froggie Quilter (Okla) on November 15, 2009 at 6:21pm
Yes, Diane, DH and I sleep under every quilt I make to give away. Unless, of course, it is a tiny wall hanging. lol. I read once about Hawaiian traditions, and the book told me that it's good luck to sleep under a quilt before giving it away. So, I thought that was a nice thought, so we do it. I will have to be very careful of the loose grosgrain ribbon. Can you believe I had a huge spool of grosgrain ribbon in a nice blue with black trim? Who knows when or why I bought it, but there it was, just the color of blue I was thinking of!
Oh yeah, we have pansies. That's all we call them. They love the cold. I bet it's the same or similar flower. I like snow angels better. I would love some Butternut squash soup. I don't think I have ever had it, but would love to try it.
Paula, you got a great Christmas present, and I got a great Thanksgiving turkey in the form of a daughter! Isn't it great? My SIL was born on Dec. 29. She told me the other day that the Dr. had a New Year's Eve party to go to, and didn't want to be interrupted, so he induced my MIL on the 29th. 36 years in this family, and I never knew that!
I don't hand quilt, when I started quilting, I thought it would cut into my cross stitch time. So, I decided to do it all on machine. I don't even have any desire to hand quilt now, but my sis does. Go figure, sisters are always opposite. We both quilt, but totally different! Ya gotta love it.
Hoppy quilting!

I called the gal who does the long arm quilting. She was great and I am looking forward to her quilting my daughters quilt. Also it will be one less thing to have done. Her birthday is December 17th. She was the best Christmas present I have ever received!

Hello Ladies, and Gents...if you're in here! It's Sunday...and all the rain...it's too wet to rake up all the leaves and pine needles...so my son stopped in and said he would take care of it next week-end...Maybe a strong wind will clean it all up? Yes, "Snow Angels"...Looked all over for them this year, but, finally found them. Also, known as Winter Pansies. They stay well, all winter long, and into the next season. Worked in the kitchen today...Made Butternut Squash Soup..,.Awesome. Made so much, gonna freeze some for Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Will disappear in a few min...and check out what I can work on in the sewing room. For all you hand quilters...God Bless you...a lot of work, and time consuming. I have sent a few of my quilts out to WI....for her and her hubbie to long arm quilt for me...They come back in two weeks...and are beautifully done...and ready for my beds. Try it...you may just like it. Talk later, or tomorrow...Anne

Froggie: Love the flip flops. And they really look like flip flops. Your sister is a very lucky sister indeed.
Diane Gunter/Canada Comment by Diane Gunter/Canada on November 15, 2009 at 10:23am
I'm with Froggie. What are 'snow angel' flowers? Can I get them here in Canada? Or is our weather too cold?
Your sister has 7 kids! Wow she is a saint!I LOVE the flip flop quilt. It is so bright and cheerful. You are a good sister Froggie.
As for sending quilts out to be quilted. Yes I send all of mine out. It can be a little expensive. I have paid up to $350.00 for a custom quilt to be done. BUT in my case it is so worth the money. First of all I do not and doubt I ever will have the desire to machine quilt a big quilt. That is anything bigger than a wall hanging[ 20 x 20]. Second, I can finish 4-5 quilts a year if I have them quilted by someone else.
If I am ever going to quilt a quilt it will be hand quilted. That is my dream. Who knows if I will ever achieve it but that is what I am saving my "quilting " time for.
Now as for Angus and the thread being hilarious! Would you like to come and untangle what uaed to be a very expensive ball of hand dyed thread! He got at it again last night and the little rotter would lay about 2" beyond where I could reach. It's a good thing I love him because I was ready to hang him.
Happy stitching to all!
p.s. Froggie did you say you were going to sleep with your sisters quilt?

I have never heard of snow angels. The flowers, anyway. I know about the kind where you lay down and make an angel in the snow. Yes, I watched Love Story. lol. I know Myra doesn't need reminding of the number of kids she has, actually they seemed to fit quite nice on the quilt. I had out about a dozen colors that matched the flip flops, and started messing with them, and they fit. So, I thought, odd numbers look good together, Myra has an odd number of kids, she is kinda odd sometimes... Oh that's not nice, and she isnt' even here to defend herself!
Paula, Thanks for the compliment. I don't do any fancy quilting, but like to do it all myself, so I have just taught myself how to quilt. I should take some classes to learn more stitches, like feathers. I should look into that. I never have had a long-armer finish a quilt for me, but I have heard it's quite expensive. They do take up a lot of room, though, so you should think of the space as well as the price. I have seen them from about $6,000 to 15,000. Hopefully someone else can provide better input than my rambling!
Now I am working on cross stitch Christmas pieces. I always make a cross stitch ornament for my two grandsons, and DD2 gets a Precious Moments piece. She told me yesterday I better get busy. I am in trouble with the kid again. Oh yeah, kid that is going to be 33 the day before Thanksgiving! I better get stitchin!
Hoppy quilting!

Froggei, I love the flip flop quilt. Your stipling is awesome, a lot of work, takes a great deal of patience.
Just wanted to throw out a questions. I have finished the top for the dear daughter quilt. at the quilt shop they suggested I pay a long arm sewer to quilt it for me. This price ranges from $75 to $150!!! Wow I am buying a long arm. I am not sure if I should consider this possibility. I hate too spend that much money. Has anyone had another sewer quilt for them and is it worth the price? I appreciate your feedback.

Froggie - love the flip flop quilt. Your DS is going to love it! I am sure she doesn't need reminding that she has 7 children.

Anne - don't you hate it when you run out of materials to finish the project that you want to finish? I know I do.

I didn't do any sewing today - but I really wanted to. Instead I did some cleaning trying to get the house ready for the holidays. Couldn't find anyone to clean it for free - didn't want to use my quilt money on something so mundane as cleaning.

Well, I think I am going to head towards the bedroom. I am really quite sleepy. Kit

Your flip flop quilt is amazing...Really cute. A lot of work...but, How satisfying to complete it. We had a pretty dreary day today...A lot of rain..the remnants of Ida the hurricane. Did a lot of sewing...but they are all incomplete. I made one of the mug cozies...not finished yet...have to put the ends on it. and ran out of stuffing for the apple...so that's unfinshed as well. Will do some cooking tomorrow..My youngest son, and one grandson, will be here...to clear the yard of all the leaves...getting the outside ready for winter. We did plant some snow angels....Yellows, purple, and dark blue....they flower all winter long. Nice to look out the windows...during the winter months, and there they are peeking out from under the snow. Talk tomorrow...be good all. Anne

Oh you cant see it very well, and the color of the single flip flop doesnt look very good. It's a green-silver kinda color. And the button is a FROG. And Myra and her DH have seven kids, so there are seven pair of flip flops in case she forgets. Oh yeah, Diane, my two daughters don't look anything alike. When they were in school, kids thought they had different dads or couldn't possibly be related. The oldest looks just like my MIL did. The youngest looks more like me.
OK someone go call Mari so she can see the flip flops. I still have to take a pic of the back, and sleep with it, then it will be ready for Christmas!
Hoppy quilting!
