Quilt With Us

We certainly accomplished a LOT with the "Stash Buster and UFO Basher" last year, so I will be organizing a similar activity this year!  However this year, we will be focusing entirely on shrinking our stash.  An additional change this year is that we will be doing it on a MONTHLY basis.  There will be a small prize for each monthly winner.  But...there will also be a GRAND prize for the gal who is the overall monthly winner at the end of the year!  So this year, it will be little steps (monthly) to master a huge accomplishment:  BUST THE STASH!!!!

In 2012 we will be focusing on trimming down our stash.  You know how many resolutions involve weight loss and slimming down?!  Well, instead of working on our body...we are going to work on our stash!!! lol   To be a member of this group you are encouraged to USE THE FABRIC IN YOUR STASH that was purchased prior to January 1, 2012.  You may start new projects or finish old projects- but choose the fabrics from your stash. (Anything purchased during this 2012 year canNOT be counted as part of your stash!)  You will need to keep track of how much fabric you use out of your stash each month.  The easiest way to do this is measure your fabric piece before you use it in a project and then measure your fabric piece after you are done using it.  That will help you determine how much fabric you have used! Even easier-if you use only fabric from your stash for your quilt, the pattern you are using will tell your yardage. Who wants to join me on this quest to shrink our waistlines...er, I mean stashes???

I know several of you who have that competitive edge and will be enticed by this challenge! Sometimes a task (e.g. shrinking your stash) can be better accomplished with a 'support group' cheering you on!  "YOU CAN DO IT!"- yelled while shaking my pom-poms (how's that for support?)!!!

So, let's take it one month at a time!  Tell us about the project you are working on that is helping you deplete your stash.  You are encouraged to post pictures of your projects!  And remember to post the yardage you use from your stash each time you complete a project!!!  (YES, a quilt top will count as a completed project- even though it is not quilted!  Oh- and don't forget to count the yardage you used to prepare a backing for the quilt top!)  Remember:  you cannot count any newly purchased fabrics for your project....ONLY what you use from your stash.

If you need to buy some fabric to complete a project...we promise we will not bully or intimidate you!  Our goal is to see how long we can go without purchasing fabric and to see how much fabric we can use up from our own stash!

GO, STASH BUSTERS, GO!!!!

Formula to help you figure yardage of your project:  multiply number of inches for width  times the number of inches for length and then divide it by 1,296 inches (which is a square yard: 36" x 36").

WIDTH x LENGTH divided by 1,296 = your total yardage!

I keep forgetting to post my pillowcase yardage!  Remember when I told you I made a 'gazillion' of them with my new-to-me serger??  Well, it wasn't quite a gazillion...it actually was 14! :)  Since it takes a yard to make a pillowcase; I now have 14 yards listed behind my name!  I did take a picture of these 14 pillowcases and will try to get it posted soon.

So proud of how well everyone is prodding themselves to use their stash!  We certainly have some beautiful projects coming from stashes!!!  :)

Betty- aren't those strip quilts fun...and addictive?!  So easy and yet so striking!  You never know what the finished project will look like!  Your quilt sure is a beauty!  I like the idea of adding the solid colors with the black/white prints.

Peg-What a fun quilt you made!  The design has such 'movement' with it!  It looks like a cross between a friendship star and rail fence and perfect harmony was the end result!

Froggie-Way to hop to it and get something done out of your stash!  Now you're on the board!  Not only with one project...but TWO!  WooHoo!!!!!

Hi Ladies, I posted a pic of my 2011 Birthday Quilt on that discussion, I am completely done with it.

Well back to the stash to see what I am going to get into .  I have gotten out the SLide Show  Quilt that Liz gave me that I have had for 2 years so its time to make it and I always go a couple of things going so I can quit one and do the other for a while.    Be back later.

I think I'm going to get out of the corner.  I have one third of a scrap quilt pieced together, all I have to do is get the other six rows on it and a two and half inch border and I will be able to have a project done.  It is my goal for tomorrow.  It might go quicker if I stopped trying to make sure that I don't have the same fabric side by side.  After all there is a white sashing buffering the blocks.

I do the whole no same color touching thing too - can be a problem when you get down to the last few blocks :)

I may not have much to add to my total stash used for a while as I'm working on my Mom's quilt.  I had this fantasy of completing 5 blocks a day but so far have 1 finished and 5 more are about 3/4 done - oh well.  Of course if UPS hadn't sent my kit for the quilt on a cross country tour it would have been here before the 1st - lol

Marcia, I completed the jelly roll race quilt (9.5 yards) and the 2 notebook covers (.5 yard each).  You can add them to my monthly total.  I don't think I'm moving too quickly thru my stash, but every little bit helps.  I have another top almost ready to quilt, but that will probably be next month!!

Finished the Slide Show Quilt today, got the backing all cut and ready to go and the binding is all cut sewn and pressed and ready as well.   Marcia you can add 7.86 yds to my total. Here is the quilt.

Betty, I love that quilt - couldn't be the batiks could it?  lol    Actually I have that pattern - just haven't made it yet.  Great job on it.

Very pretty, Betty.  I've always liked this pattern, too.

Betty, I love that quilt! very pretty colors-I think it would be pretty in florals,too--I have lots of florals.

Yay! I finally got some yardage to report! Finished the little twister and just finished the backing for a total of 9.5 yards! (Still debating on binding color) Woo Hoo! It sure feels good to have it to this point. DH said he will help me pin bast it on the floor tomorrow. I may even get it quilted before 2013!

Betty, I love that slide show quilt! I've never seen one like that before. Where did you get the pattern?

Pat, I think it would look really nice in florals too!

Finally I finished a top.  Don't look Sandy!  The quilt top is 67X85 and the backing is 82X92  giving me 10.22 yds.  I may use part of the left over backing as the binding but not sure yet.  Either way I won't count binding since I will have left over backing going back into my scraps.  This quilt taught me not to design in my head, and not to work with so many pieces.  I probably have enough pieces cut to do it again.......but its going to be a while before I do it. LOL.

I'm calling this one barcode.
