Quilt With Us

“DIRTY DOZEN” CHALLENGE

This year we are going to focus on TWELVE unfinished projects!  Our goal is to get these twelve projects completed and off our UFO list!  All you need to do is draw up a list of twelve of your unfinished projects.  It can be something as minimal as making a label, sewing the binding on a quilt, or sewing up a BOM block.  Maybe you have a quilt top waiting to be machine quilted.  Perhaps you have a table runner that is cut out and just waiting to be sewn up!  Do you have a stack of quilt patterns that need to be organized?  Do you have a box full of scraps that need to be cut down into useable squares or strips? Look on your shelves, in your closets, in your tubs, in your bags, or wherever you hide your UFOs and find those twelve projects you plan to complete this year! Number each of these twelve projects because there’s a TWIST to this year’s challenge.  On the first of every month, I will draw a number.  The number I draw is the same numbered UFO project you will work on and complete for that month!  For instance if I draw out number 4, you need to check what project is listed as your fourth UFO and work on that project for that month.  This should be a novel (and fun) way to get some of our pesky UFOs completed!

If you wish to participate, all you need to do is list your twelve UFOs!  (HELPFUL HINT: select projects that you can actually complete in a month!)

I will cross out your numbered projects as you get them completed.  Please share photos of your UFOs as you complete them.   Prizes will be awarded to all who complete their TWELVE UFOs in their designated months! (This challenge discourages you from getting back-logged.  Trying to ''make up lost time" by getting 2-3 UFOs done in one month is STRESSFUL and that's not how this challenge works!  There's less stress if you follow our challenge: getting ONE project done in the month it is to be completed!)

You crack me up Froggie!!!!!!!!   They're just taking the long scenic route to the stable - lol

I am going to try this. At least it will be an inspiration. I know I have at least 12 UFO's. Last year I finished 3 of 7, so if I finish six, I will be ahead. What a way to start out as a slacker. I will go dig for UFO's now.

~Hopppy quilting~

OK Marcia, here is my list, so far. I recall one project that I started and really want to finish but cannot find it. I can't even remember the name of it, but I have 2 blocks done. If I find it can I switch one from my list to this one? I would switch with one of the last 3 on my list.

1. finish embroidered horse & sleigh wall hanging

2. Charity quilt, quilt & Bind

3. Quilt & bind my Blue star block exchange quilt

4. Finish piecing, quilt & bind KC star quilt

5. finish piecing, quilt & Bind last years BOM

6. Repair vintage baby quilt for DH's aunt

7.  Assemble Carrie Nation blocks, quilt and bind (from retreat)

8.  make lap quilt for retreat

9.  Make a throw pillow to use up my pillow form

10.  Quilt and bind 1 of my vintage quilts

11.  Quilt and bind 1 of my vintage quilts

12.  Quilt and bind 1 of my vintage quilts

Marcia, does it count as a UFO when you have purchased fabric for a specific project and haven't got it started yet?  I have several of those, but not a lot of other UFOs.  If that first group doesn't count, I'll probably not be able to participate this year.  I guess I'm too obsessive to have many UFOs laying around!!!  I'll try to get a list ready just in case!!!  Thanks.

Just talked to my Mom. I have been without quilts to quilt for almost 2 months. Just found out Mom will be bringing 5 quilts with her when we go to the wedding Jan 11.  So here I go, I may not get this challenge done either. Oh well I have my list and I feel that if I just get some of them done that is better then the projects just laying around.

DEB- Sewing pillowcases, making dog beds, and organizing fabric can most certainly be counted as UFOs in this challenge.  I'm sure you already have the fabric purchased for the pillowcases and I bet you have plenty of little scraps that need to be tossed into pillows to be donated to shelters for dog beds!  And YES,  I will let you (and anyone else) have a month of organizing your fabric as one of your UFO projects for this challenge.  My thought is I want to encourage you gals to get some of these quilt-related projects off your "TO DO" list; so I will be very flexible when it comes to you selecting your "DIRTY DOZEN"!  I'd much rather have you join than sit back and watch!  ;^)

Tressa- YES...your unfinished "Lucky 7" projects may be selected as some of your "Dirty Dozen" projects!!!

JAN- if you have purchased fabric for a specific project, but don't have it started....that counts as a UFO in my book!  As you can tell, I want to be very lenient w/you ladies!  I just want you to have fun in trying to get 12 projects completed this year!

Here's my "Dirty Dozen"- 1. Quilt & bind red/navy/green table runner 2. Bind my "Scrappy X" quilt 3. Bind my Rainbow Strip quilt 4. Quilt & bind my 2 1/2" strip quilt (made from Chutes & Ladders jellyroll) 5. Quilt & bind my red strip quilt 6. Quilt & bind black/white strip quilt w/lime spacer squares 7. Sew Maple Leaf blocks (won from Lotto) into quilt top, quilt, & bind 8. Sew autumn colored Sampler Blocks (received from B'day Swap) into quilt top, quilt , & bind 9. Sew yellow & blue "Caring Hearts" into wall hanging 10. Add border to Sandy's Mystery Quilt- then quilt & bind it 11. Complete my guild's Black & White strip challenge-sew into top, then quilt & bind 12. Make lap robe from fabric received at IQ retreat, then quilt, & bind

I'm not sure I will be able to get all these projects quilted, but it's a goal to shoot for!!! :)

Ok yesterday I made the mistake of pulling out a box of blocks I've been meaning to do something with for years and realized i have enough blocks in there to make up several months worth of projects for this challenge . So we have to have everything quilted and bound to call them finished?
