What this group is about

I don’t know about you, but I have too many things started. Join me in my quest to get finish what I’ve started. The deal is, for every 2 projects I finish, I get to reward myself by starting something new. You can make your own rules, or give the group ideas for new rules as we go. I think it’ll be fun to ask this group for advice on what project to wrap up next, show my progress with photo’s, get motivation from each other when I want to break my own agreement (trust me, I am weak willed when it comes to new projects).

1. No purchase necessary
2. Timeframe: this is an ongoing group with no defined end time.
3. If you are not a member of our Quilt with Us Community yet, click the "Signup and Join" box in the upper-right corner. Once you're a member, you will see a green plus sign and a link to "Join Karen’s UFO Quilt Along" in the upper-right of the group page. Clicking on the link will allow you to join this Quilt Along.
4. Post questions, project feedback, and pictures of your progress. NEW To show your finished UFO in this slideshow, If you have finished a UFO, post a picture to your own photos, add a "tag" in all lower case. The tag should be " ufo" (don't type the quotation marks). I'll troll regularly and add them as I see them! Note, the slideshow only holds 100 photos and our industrious group has passed that number! As I add new projects, I am deleting the oldest. Now we can all applaud our progress more easily.
5. Cheer on your fellow quilters as you go!
6. TUFO - means Tuesday UFO - those of us interested try to make a small dent in whatever UFO we are working on. Tuesday is simply the day the Connecting Threads gals get together to sew and craft...you can make it any day you like, but we got a kick out of the title. Once in awhile we can't make it on Tuesday so we move it to Wednesday - yup WUFO. Report here what you are planning to work on, then the next day, let us all know how you did. Nothing is required, it's just for fun.

Not something I've done, but I've heard that when a lefty is teaching a righty (or vice versa) you should sit facing one another (rather than next to one another)and picture the other person being a mirror image of yourself.

Glad I could help ladies, sometimes some little something somesone says does spark a memory and reminds us of how we wanted to do it, I never tried to keep up with how long it took me because I am so slow sometimes that it would just depress me, but I do try to take pictures of the finished product although I am a little behind on getting them into the book....that could be a good project for this month....I helped my friend put a twin quilt together yesterday, and she wants lessons in how to sew on a machine, she has never done that and she is just learning to hand sew....and she is left-handed, She want to quilt this one for her DGD and I am just not sure if we can do it or not, I am not a lefty and I keep smiling and saying "sure you can do it" while I am thinking "Lord, what have I gotten myself into" any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...In the meantime, its into the shower and off to the Dr. to see it everything is still ticking and in the right place....Have a great day ladies...God Bless

Rebecca, you have reminded me that I have a quilt journal somewhere! Duh! I don't even remember when last I wrote an entry...I must find it...I used to draw a simple design and glue fabric samples and then put a finished picture in the journal and tried to keep track of my time working on the quilt...the last was the hardest part for me...I'd always just sew and forget to mark down my time...thank you! I'm going to try and find it! LOL! Hope everyone has a great day today!

I used to keep a list of the quilts I finished so I could remember what size they were and the year finished - that's when I used to show more and needed that info for the entry forms. Maybe I should get back to that....

I started keeping a quilt journal, sort of, nothing formal, just a notebook, for myself , telling me who I made a quilt for and why, helps me remember that my sil already received one and my DS didn't....LOL....I really like just writing down, what I have started, and I am trying to do better about keeping it up although I am a little behind, and I am trying to start keeping one about general crafty things as well, because I wanted to keep my quilt journal just for quilts, bags knitting projects and christmas stuff all are going in a separate place....I have finally started working on the tree skirt that was my project for last month, maybe it will get under the tree for Christmas after all...

Yeah, I keep a "master" list hidden in the drawer. Once in a while I'm looking for something else and lo and behold I find another UFO that's not on the list! I guess some of the UFO's are hidden as well as the "master" list....LOL I figure if they never get found then they must not be very important. Well, guess none of them were REAL important or they wouldn't have been UFO's for 20 + years. LOL

Laurie - in making your lists of 5 items do you also have a "secret" list of all?
I'd be worried about something being completely forgotten about if I had a list that didn't contain EVERYTHING.

Circle Square,,, I have some of those same quilts,, just to many pieces at the time I was constructing them. I have gone back to them, and I am surprised at how much more experienced or confident I feel with them now. Give it a try,,, you might find its not that hard at all.
I also see new blocks/quilts I want to make, and they are waiting on the sidelines for me to start. I made a pact with myself this past year,,, I would not start any new projects, except the BOM I had started a year ago October,,, that meant that I was able to construct a new block each month, but the rest of the time I work on WIP's or UFO's.
That went so well, I will probably do it again this coming year. Signed up for a BOM that will start in January so that will be my new project. This past year I have completed 11 quilts, # 12 is on the mid arm frame, hand quilting another one right now,,, and completed numerous WIP's. The last one was from 1994,, and I sure hope it doesn't take me 15 years to get it quilted!!
Good luck and have fun!! Which I know we all do, or we wouldn't be doing it.

Circumstances dictated the last 2 UFO's I finished. The crib quilt because it was the last one my mother pieced and my great nieces little girl is growing fast so wanted to finish it for her while she is still small enough to use it LOL. The other one is also one my mom pieced. I needed a warm quilt for my truck and it's heavy fabric so tied it and got it finished pretty fast. I have been really glad to have it too.
Circle Square, maybe you could do two UFO's at the same time. Even if you only put 1/2 a block together on the older more tedious ones..it would be progress and the rest of the time work on something else.
I had to take a break from these clamshells to do something that goes together faster so I felt like I was making some progress and not sewing a never ending seam on the same thing.
For some reason the quilts I see I'd like to make are ALWAYS ones that are very time consuming!

How do you decide which UFO to work on next? I have some from a few weeks ago and some from 20 years ago! Those old ones were never finished because they were made of lots of tiny pieces and I just got overwhelmed. Now I know not to start things like that! But I don't want to give them away - I want to finish them some day. But then there is a new workshop or a new pattern. . . I guess we are just hopeless addicts, aren't we? I had a list once. I did pretty good for awhile, but then I became lax and undisciplined and began starting new projects. Maybe I'll start a new list. . . when I have time.
