Comment by Barbara Sullivan on April 4, 2013 at 5:47am I had a tin lizzie for several years--and had problems throughout, but also learned a huge amount about how machines run and how to fix problems. Dealer support wasn't that great either, but it was a basic machine--and I wanted to do more than just basics. I upgraded to a Handi-quilter Fusion a few months ago and WOW! what a difference! I'm having so much fun not just basic quilting, but programming in borders and squares and edge to edge designs. I have a long way to go, but this machine is amazing. I have great support from the dealer who is only a half hour away. Take your time, look at and try out as many machines as you can--one of them will fit you just right. Good luck!
Comment by chrissie wunderlich / sk on April 3, 2013 at 8:11pm i would wait too, melzee. it's a huge investment and you need to be sure that any issues are dealt with quickly and professionally. i had a tin lizzie and while the machine was okay, it was difficult to get any help when i needed it. i also outgrew it very quickly. i bought an apqs lucey in the fall and have been THRILLED with the service and support. i have also found that when it was all said and done, the two machines cost about the same. the tin lizzie doesn't come with as much 'standard' as the lucey does and you end up forking out lots of money for extras like rear handles (which should be standard as far as i'm concerned)
in my experience, tin lizzie is an ok machine if you have no plans to grow as a quilter. if you want to grow and learn, then look at the 'big boys', apqs, gammill, innova. they are more money, but you get what you pay for. 8-)
Comment by Kathy Steele on April 3, 2013 at 6:08pm The poor service would be a concern to me. I just bought a new APQS and I have been very impressed with the service.
Donna-Another friend of mine suggested that also, but I have decided to take my time researching which machine AND dealer I want. I may even wait until AQS in Des Moines in the fall.
Hi everyone! Need some help and input. I got my new Tin Lizzie 18ESP on Feb 28. Long story short, had a major issue with the table AND the dealer with service, so told them to come and pick up my machine and refund my money. They have offered to bring back a whole new machine and table and let me use it 30 days for free to decide if I want to keep this one. Do I take them up on their offer or do I search for a new machine with excellent customer service? Any great stories about your dealers AND machines or any don't go there stories.
Comment by Valerie Funk on March 14, 2013 at 3:39pm Well my machine is ordered. Said it would take about 6-8 weeks before I get it. I am so excited! That gives me enough time to get my sewing room all cleaned up and ready for the delivery!! Yippy!!
