About this Quilt Along

Before you get started, please read the "Quilt-A-Long Guidelines" located in the "Discussion Forum" or by clicking on the link. The PDF downloads are located below this discussion, scroll down to view.

This "quilt-along" began as a tutorial focused on the use of a positioning pin to help maintain sharp points and straight lines within and between blocks with diagonal lines. The scope expanded to include suggestions for precise cutting, pinning, piecing, pressing and trimming, a sampler quilt to practice skills and a Quilt with Us "quilt-along" group with weekly blogs during the National Quilting Month in March, 2012!

The sampler is not for a first quilt! It is geared toward confident beginners up to experienced quilters who want to increase the quality of their piecing. Please don’t let the word "perfect" intimidate you! Increased precision, not perfection, is the goal.

I have provided eight fabric options for the Perfect Points Sampler.

The Perfect Points Sampler pattern will be using fabrics in the Montecito-Pink PDF. The fabrics listed for each collection are in stock as of 2/23/12. Some may be running low; alternate choices are provided. For those of you who want to select your own fabrics, please look at the suggestions on page 2 of the Montecito-Pink PDF. To see what each collection looks like, click here.

Download any one of these fabric option PDFs (to get started). We will be using the Montecito Pink PDF. These are color options only, not required.

Thanks for this Ann. I have downloaded the tutorial and Perfect Points Sampler Pattern and will give it a go. I used the positioning pin for my MQ14 blocks and I must say it helps a lot. Some of my points are still not spot on but it is more because my 1/4" seams appear to curve slightly at the end, so I will work on that as well.

Thankyou for this tutorial. I have downloaded all the instructions, gathered a selection of blues and whites, and have the package all ready to start. Points are very important to me and I hope to improve them by following your directions.

Oh my gosh Kathleen, your work is wonderful.  The drumset is awesome and the VW bus brings back lots of memories.  The mixer just made me smile so wide....my mom made so many "family recipes" on a mixer just like that; she would have loved it.  (Actually, I have a mixer like that and I love it too!)

Thanks ladies! If you have time, click on my name and check out my pictures. I just framed and gave the paper pieced drum set block to my SIL today and he was sufficiently impressed! Made me feel good.
