Quilt With Us

This is sample blocks as I couldn't find the written instructions for a 12 and 1/2" block for the Disappearing Nine Patch.  I now know that I should have cut squares 1/2" larger as these came out at 12".  I also picked the fabrics for the rest of my blocks and cut some of them out.

Hi Gayle                                                           My first 2 blocks also turned out closer to 12 in than 12 1/2. Are you going to redo yours?  I hate to waste the 2 I made.  I have looked everywhere for a 12 1/2 in pattern.  Any suggestions?

Hi Jean, yes I will be re-doing my blocks.  I looked online for a pattern also but didn't find one.  I just used some fabrics that I had on hand and the white one was not an acceptable one.  I will be using these 2 blocks as pockets on some tote bags that I carry when shopping.

Your pattern choice was "the Ohio Star" and if you go to the quilter's cache her pattern should make a 12 and 1/2"  square.  Be sure that you use the scant 1/4" seam and they should come out right.

Gayle, they look really nice.  Sorry they are too small :(!
Thanks, these were samples.  I will put them on some shopping totes for pockets.
That's a great idea!  Super cool for summer too!

Here are my first 2 completed blocks.  The Ohio Star.  I actually have a lot of red white and blue material in my many drawers of fabric.  So this will give me a chance to use some of it up.  Hope attaching this picture works!

I like them!  :)
Jean, if those stars are too small you could send them to me and I could use them on my totes also.  I love, love ,love that red star. The colors are fabulous.
Cool Love them!!!
Well, 1/2" wasn't right either.....  I am now cutting again at 4.75" and it will give me about 1/8" for trimming up the block.  I have started over and have 1 block made.

Gayle, did you get my post on Sunday with the measurements?  I must have not hit the "POST" button.

I figured that you needed to go 4.333 + .5?  for each of the pieces in the original 9 patch.  which works out to 4.833 - close to 4.875.  So I figured half way between 4.75 and 4 7/8ths?

Gayle, found my post from Sunday about sizes for your block.  It's in Sandy's discussion on where to find blocks...:) hope it helps.
