Wonder where everyone is!!! Haven't seen any action on this group for a while. Maybe you are all busy sewing up your Christmas gifts? I hear they are going to have a mail strike over in the UK. is this correct, does anyone know about it? I'm sure if this is so it will cause a lot of problems at their busiest time of the year for mail.

Hi Pat
I got a Quilting magazine in a Knitting swap (well asked what i would like lol) anyway it does a sort of spotlight different stores around the country (USA) & the thing i noticed more than anything is how much more they show & variety they have compared to our stores.
Yes it was nice seeing you as well sorry didn't as much time to chat had DH take the bobbin case out & put it all back together again but the machine is still playing up so will phone them to sort it out.
No it not cheating as I was chatting to you online before i knew you at the quilting group & you didn't mention it until after so we met first after online chatter lol
Hugs Janice

Isn't it nice that the conversation is on the go once more?
Janice, some of the stores in Alaska were not all that big but my goodness the amount of stuff they packed in! Best of all, a lot of what I saw there was very different from what we get over here. Nice to see you again yesterday, your quilt is looking good - you should post a photo of it on here.
Just thought, I should tell them on the Hearts and Faces group that you and I have met several times - bit of a cheat really since we only live a spit up the road from one another and meet at the Quilt Set!

Sandra - glad you had a good time over here visiting with the family, that is a lovely part of the UK that you hail from. While you were in that part of the country did you visit the Quilters Guild museum in York? Sounds like you had fun shopping, must have been a real treat for you.

Ally - yes, I managed to go to quite a few quilt stores in Alaska. I found 2 in Sitka, 2 in Skagway, 2 in Junea (plus a Jo-Annes) and one in Ketchikan. Don't know why I only found one there, mind you it was a big one so maybe there was only one. Naturally I had to patronise them all, in some I only bought patterns which are different from the ones I can get here but did manage to buy some fabric and also a kit called Glacier which was appropriate as we had visited the Sawyer Glacier the day before. Got a great pattern of totem poles which I am looking forward to making - which to do first, too many choices.

We didn't go to Victoria, too many things to do and too little time. I think we shall really have to try to get back there if at all possible. We did visit Stanley Park which was great. Trouble is you need a whole day to visit Vancouver Island, I really would have liked to go though.

Welcome back Pat and Sandra. Sounds like you both had a busy time but enjoyed your trip.
Did you manage to go to any quilts stores while you both were on holidays?

Not too much happening on this site.
I see Annie is back on line as we heard that she had computer trouble.
I have been busy with getting a table runner finished for my son to take back to Hong Kong for DIL an early Christmas gift that she can open early. Had a great visit with them this summer. But miss them especally our little GS.
Pat did you go over to Victoria while in BC. Also did you go to the gardens there?
Glad to see you both on the site.

Wow Pat, sounds like quite an excursion. Makes my trip seem mild. I just returned from the UK. My brother (finally) got married and my sister and husband recently had a baby daughter. So I had a whirlwind of a time, my mom played chauffeur for me, so I didn't have to rent a vehicle and we went shopping, shopping, shopping. I am from York, so I love to visit and go and do the high street stuff.
(I am in VERY rural New Brunswick, Canada ~ the opposite coast to where you were, and my nearest shopping is 1.5 hours drive away!!)

Hope you had a great time in Canada, which airline did you fly with?

Hi everyone - I am back from holiday and only just about over the jet lag, it was awful this time. We had a terrific time, loved Vancouver and met up with Dale who was a Battison before getting married. We had dinner together and she gave me copies of the family information she has, we don't know if there is a direct connection yet and how far back it goes. Guess will have to do some investigation.
The cruise was amazing and spectacular scenery in Alaska. Also met up with my email pen pal in Juneau but really needed longer there - could mean a visit at some time in the future! Ended up with a few days in San Diego, fabulous place. Only downside was the journey back, it all went very wrong but that's another story.

Hi Pat - you have a great time, right now in Canada we are having a beautiful Fall nice warm days and cool evenings. I expect it might be a bit cooler in Alaska. Don't worry about the trainers you'll probably be able to buy runners a lot less money here. I notice when we are over you pay double what we pay here. Have a great time meeting up with your pen pals. Talk when you get back and you'll have to tell us about your trip and post photo's.
