Annette - I LOVE Baltimore Albums - check out the one I'm making for my husband (anniversary gift started for our 25th Anniversary - last Dec we celebrated our 40th!!!) - I also have a UFO that I started for a class that has a swan in the middle, etc.

A new Baltimore book - Yippeeee! Is it Elly's or another designer? Barb

Yvonne Marie, I agree with QuiltDragon. Don't be intimidated by the Baltimore albums. You can make them as 'fancy' or as 'plain' as you choose to. I teach Baltimores and make them myself. One leaf at a time. It doesn't matter if it's on a BA or a regular applique quilt...it's still one leaf at a time . What colours are you using? Is there anyone else on this list that's a Baltimore fan? There's HUGE news coming up...C&T will be publishing a new book on Baltimores to be released in 2010 in Houston. I can hardly wait to see them as I have done blocks for Elly and for Kathy Dunnigan's quilt. Friendship's Offering and Think Of Me Dear One.

I have a question for the experts on this list. I'm currently stuck on how I should quilt the background of the applique quilt on my page. I've quilted around all of the applique and down the sashings, but it's the background I'm stuck on. I had thought to cross hatch it, but wondered what might happen with crosshatching with all those flying geese? Can anyone help me on this one? Puuullleeeease?

YvonneMarie - don't be intimidated by Baltimore Album quilts - Elly is a wonderful quilter and very good teacher (took a class from her _years_ ago and loved it! Just enjoy the process and don't worry about getting it done. One of the best things I learned from her was the use of 1/2" sequin pins just inside the seam allowances to hold it in place. Enjoy! YvonneMarie: I believe LA means Long Arm quilter. Acronyms can be so-o confusing.

what is LA quilting?

Prarie Quilter, relax! I didn't take offense and meant what I said about needing to look further at LA quilting. I've obviously not seen the full spectrum of that technique.

Oh Gini, Hopefully you didn't feel beat up on. That certainly wasn't my intent. I prefer my quilts to be hand-quilted as well. For the most part, I think sometimes machine quilting makes the quilts a little card-board-y and not as drapable as the softer hand-quilted pieces. I would like to hand-quilt all of my quilts (as some on here do), but it just seems like I make the tops faster than I can keep up with quilting them, so some are sent out. Of course, the smart thing to do, probably, would be to FINISH one quilt before making another top! :0)

I see by my responses that I need to look further at LA quilting. I'm glad to hear that pattern quilting is not being lost.

Is anyone attending the TN Quilt Fest in Johnson City? I can't make the one in Knoxville, unfortunately.

Baltimore Album class went marvelous.....however after recieving our book I am rather overwhelmed. Baltimore Beauties and Beyond, Volume One, by Ella Lienkiewicz. She has done beautiful work! Sigh. I am sorting my fat quarters, surging the edges, and going to pick up something to set the colors and try and do the lesson before next months class.
