This quilt was made for my husband, Wayne. He chose the combination of colors and the design inspirations. I decided that appliqué (rather than piecing) was the best method for most of the triangles, especially since I really enjoy doing handwork. Although started in 2000, it was set aside for several years and my husband has patiently waited as I worked on many (many!) other projects instead. The applique work was finally started in late 2011, after much drafting of pattern pieces and cutting of fabric. In April 2012, a special quilter friend, Pat, my best friend's quilting buddy, provided some unique inspiration in urging me to get this quilt DONE! By Dec. 2012, the top was done and I got to my favorite part - the hand quilting.
The very center medallion is pieced and the rest of the the triangles and red sawtooth border are hand appliquéd. It is all hand quilted.
It was shown at the 2013 Sisters Outdoor Quilt show, received blue ribbons at both our local grange fair and the WA State grange convention. 2nd place at the Columbia Gorge Quilters Show in the appliqué division and best of show at our local county fair. It now hangs from the upstairs railing of our loft. I am quite pleased to have it ALL DONE!!
