I assembled and quilted this birthday photo quilt for my husband's great great Aunt Ruth. She is turning 100, and her niece, Betty, (my husband's maternal grandmother) wanted to make this quilt for her. She is in her 80s herself, and wasn't able to do all the actual quilting, so everyone pitched in and we got it done. Betty found photos, and Betty, her daughter, Marti and Marti's partner Larry scanned them, blew them up and got them ironed on to fabric. Then my nephew Joey got a friend's mother to make the inside blocks, and I assembled and quilted the final product.
I had wonderful advice from Karen, Laraine and Judy here at Connecting Threads. I'm very lucky to work here! My binding wasn't great, but it was *fast* (as Karen pointed out). And Laraine very kindly offered to teach me how to bind a quilt properly on my next try. (This is only my third quilt. The first one (a double wedding ring) was half chewed up by my rabbit George, though it is still in use, and my second one (appliqued tulips) isn't done yet! I'm going to hit Laraine up for advice on binding my tulips quilt when it is finished... someday.)

Pele the Corgi, and Lily, Jasmine and Griselda the cats for me and Happy Quilting!
Ok, I didn't answer your questions because I was rushing. I just started hand quilting because on my machine I need to put my walking foot and it's not working all of a sudden so on the quilt I'm working on, I am hand quilting it. I do it when I'm watching TV or talking on the phone and whoever I'm talking to can share in my pain of my sticking myself. One time I dropped the phone because the needle went through my skin and I ran to the bathroom because of the blood. I have not mastered the timble, never could.
I think your quilt turned out very nice! What a great gift.
Thank you for your nice comments about my quilts and my poor animals and also thank your mother for linking me. Since I've been quilting I haven't showed them to anyone so I really love this web site that I can share. I am happy that I took pictures of them that I can share because I usually give them away. I never start a quilt for someone, I just see a pattern or decide on one and put my colors together and when I'm finished, I think, now what am I going to do with this and someone's birthday will come up or someone will have a baby and I've got a gift, but I have kept some.
I also like to knit and crochet, just last night I was going through my yarn and wondering why I bought so much, but someday, soon I will get inspiration. You have an exciting career.
Amy, keep quilting, I love the quilt you made for Aunt Ruth. I hope she has a wonderful birthday and I know there will be lots of tears, believe me the old photos bring back so many memories. I also made, but not finished with a photo quilt of my family. When I started it my daughter was six, I think and it just needs to be quilted and binded. I don't know when that will happen because since I started it, my aunt and mother passed so it will take a while before I can look at it but maybe one day.
So like I said Amy, keep quilting, just think other family members might want a quilt like the one you will be giving Aunt Ruth, at least you know it will be a treasure to her.
We live in Dallas, OR. The sun is out now and it is going to be a great birthday! Enjoy!

Have a great day Amy!
Hugs.
