About Me
I am a retired RN.
My husband and I have two adult sons (we are empty nesters).
We also have 2 young grandsons.
I love to spend my free time quilting. I use a Singer featherweight and a Janome 8200 for machine work.
I especially like to applique and hand quilt. I inherited 7 of my grandmothers quilts made by her in the 1930's so I have developed a love the 30's reproduction fabrics and traditional quilts.
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, applique, hand quilting, gardening
My pets are awesome!
cat named Dooie (after Ski-doo). She likes to 'help' me sew....she lies on every bit of material that is lying around. As soon as I lie a quilt down,,,,she's on it!!!!

Fruitbody Purse

My friend and I took a purse class at our LQS. I had purchased this fabric at a quilt show in the spring, and couldn't wait to use it! I've had SO many comments on it just carrying it around town!! What fun!

Posted on June 10, 2009 at 7:32pm 33 Comments

I've been working for 2 years on a celtic quilt "Celtic Quilt Designs" by Philomena Durcan Wiechec. Half way through, our son became engaged, so it then became 'The Wedding Quilt' ....and along with that came a deadline.....July 19th.....Well it's DONE!!!!

All the hand applique and hand quilting was worth it.....I hope now I really can wrap it up and give it away!!!

There are a few more close up pictures on my site if you'd like to have a… Continue

Meeting New Friends

Posted on March 4, 2009 at 1:23pm 4 Comments

Well, this site has enabled me to meet 2 new online friends in person!!!

Today, Edith, from Cobourg came to Peterborough, (about a 40 minute drive) and we met a coffee shop. After an hour of 'gabbing' we went to the local Fabricland store and asked for Muriel, who is also on this site. We would have a picture to show you,,,,except for dead camera batteries....LOL! Oh well, better luck next time.

To Edith and Muriel....it was great to meet you both! Here's to the next… Continue

Home from the Dominican Republic

Posted on February 28, 2009 at 8:51am 2 Comments

Good morning. I'm just home last night, from Punta Cana, and am already in withdrawl from the Carribean warmth and sunshine! We came home to -20 Celcius and a bone biting wind. Our two sons and their girlfriend/fiances went with us. It was wonderful to spend quality time with them, as one couple lives in BC and we are in Ontario.

It will take another week to sort through the mail, newspapers and emails!

I can't believe we had 275 emails waiting for us!!! I have clicked on the "stop… Continue

Quilter from Chicago IL

Posted on February 19, 2009 at 7:16am 3 Comments

Hi, I watched "House Hunters" on HGTV last night. It featured a lady named Anne from Streamwood IL, outside of Chicago, who was looking for a new house. The main criteria was that it have a large, bright area to do her quilting. She has done 50 quilts! They were beautifully displayed throughout her house. Did anyone else see this show? Wouldn't it be amazing if she was one of our CT Quilt With Us, friends? Who knows...maybe she is!!!

Your quilts are fantastic, I'm struggling along, and wondered if you still have your pattern for the "Pointless Wonder". I took a class many years ago and only finished about 1/2 the squares, moved a few times and would like to finish it, but don't have directions anymore. Can you help me out?

Thanks in advance, Mary

I find that quilters either love paper piecing, or they hate it. I'm so envious of your beautiful applique, Anne. It is very impressive. I'd love to have a personal tutorial from you.

Personally, I LOVE paper piecing, so much so that I even do traditional piecing with paper piecing by drawing my own patterns. (I really should get and learn EQ7, which could draw them for me.) On the other hand, I did applique because I had to on Dear Jane; but I never did get to feel very competent with it. In fact, I took liberties and added seam lines to paper piece in order to avoid applique on little triangles and diamonds if I could.

What quilting projects are you working on now?

I've been looking at your pictures, and I just have to say that your quilts are absolutely beautiful. You are an amazing quilter! Thank you for sharing your work.

How is your Dear Jane quilt coming along?

I have done one once before using blues showed it to someone and they fell in love with it so i sold it to her.. Missing it now.. hahhahah

Anne,
You commented about my block of oranges flowers in a wreath shape. This is one block from the Applique Sampler quilt that's 40" x 40" in the Piece O Cake book "The New Applique Sampler" by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins. It is one block. When I finish the quilt I will post it so you can see the whole thing. I am just learning how to hand applique. It's so fun. Thanks for the neat comment

Anne, you can't possibly know how glad that I am to hear that someone else has a "Wedding Quilt" story! Sorry to say though that I did not finish mine on time, you might say, "Close, but no cigar". All of you quilts are just beautiful, and like I've told everyone else, just seeing other's work is just so inspiring! My mom and I are both hand quilters so as we all know, that satisfaction we get from a job well done is a long time in comming, but so worth the time. Matter of fact, my mom is just about done with her Grandmother's Flowergarden quilt. Can't wait to see it! By the way, loved that purse with the "Vegetable Ladies". Have not seen a quilt like your Celtic Quilt, being of irish/norwegian descent inspires me to try this!
