This month, like for many of you, has seen some large amounts of rain, hail and just crazy weather. Our normal rainfall for June usually is around one-half inch. This month we have already passed three inches. Hopefully we are in for a break from the rain. If the weather permits we will take a drive through West Yellowstone Park tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing the park since we haven't been through in about fifteen years. Last spring we spent going down the Washington coast and enjoying… Continue

Cat Lady triggered my memory...

While watching the evening news last night, the anchor said to the weatherman that he should bring her flowers on May Day. I thought, huh - why? I didn't ever relate May First with flowers.
And, I don't have a spectacular May basket story but I did remember that we used to use the witches hat (a very tall metal pole on the playground with an upside down basket attached). Every year some miracle worker, probably the janitors, would take the basket from off the witches hat. We never knew who took… Continue

April went FAST!

I don't know what happened to my previous post so I hope this isn't a repeat.
My oldest son and his wife and two young sons spent the month of April living with us since they were in transition. He finished chiropractic school last spring and struggled against the economy to get a business going. They decided that they wanted to go more indepth with some of the training he learned in chiropractic school so they left to go to medical school in the Carribbean. Now that they are gone the house is t… Continue

Hi!

I am new to EPP. This has got to be the slowest way of quilting ever invented. I am sure that I am not the fastest hand quilter either. I have formed 200 hexagons over the last few weeks. My question is this - how can I keep from splitting my sewing thumb open??? OUCH! It is plain worn out.

Barbi, this is a picture of your sunbonnet sue. I am going to Memphis in the morning for the week. I promise to mail her to you next week.

Barbi, sounds almost like they are having you cut fat quarters, if the length of the strips are to be 17 inches. Yes, you can fold the fabric. Just make sure when you do your cutting that the ruler is perpendicular to the fold. If it is not, you will get that wonky bend/elbow where the fold is. Normally when I am cutting fabric I am cutting the full width which would be 40 plus inches, and that I always have folded in half, so I am cutting a 20 plus length at a time.
Watch how you fold the fabric, as the fold should be on the straight of grain. You may have to make an initial trimming cut to even out the edges to be cut before you start cutting the 2.5" wide strips. Again, when you make this first trimming cut, make sure your ruler is perpendicular (at a right angle) to the fold.
I always cut with the fold closest to me, so that I can align the bottom edge of the ruler (or I prefer the 1" marked line on the ruler) with the folded edge of the fabric.
Does that make sense to you?

She is really a nice person (as you are really a nice person) and I want something special for you both..when you receive your design and would like her in my other designs, just let me know,I might can send pictures, it would be my pleasure to sew them out for you. You can make pillows, purses, etc. Can add names..

Great! I have had my embroidery machine for a few years now but haven't got to use it because I worked and took care of my dear parents. Now I am playing with it. Sewing out a design of a cowboy on a bucking bull right now. My daughter and son-n-law own a country night club called BUCK N WILD..so I am just playing around with a couple of things for t shirts. If you need something for the GKs' let me know and I will see what I have that might help you. I am trying to figure out something nice for Maryam. She gave us one of her blocks. Are you going to cut your down and use it in your quilt? I think I am because it will remind me of her kindness.

Well I made you one..just got to mail it and DH has been sick this week. We were going in today for pain pills but on the way I remember I had six left from the Dentist. So he has an appt. the 13th.
Anyway, I have the months of sunbonnet sue. The one I did was July for my mother.I didn't include the word JULY. I picked it because she loved watermellon. The one I picked for you reminds of you talking about picking apples. She is picking apples and putting them in a basket. I didn't frame it because I didn't know if you might want to use her on our quilt, a purse, etc.
I was looking at some of my designs last night (late) and I have story book/fairy tales pictures and I thought they might look good incorp. with smaller quilts, maybe for your new GB..you know how quilters are always thinking about something else to start..tehe

Hi Barbi, DH is doing better. He has surgery on his eyes 11/25. Don't know about heart yet..How are you and your family? Haven't read any posts last night or today..gotta catch up. I do have you a little suprise to mail to you but I haven't yet and we're going back to Memphis a couple of days this week. Again it is no biggy I just thought of you when I saw it and had to sew it. You'll have to finish it a little or use as is, might want to add a frame of color fabric. You are just a really nice person. You are always doing for your family..

Hi Barbi. I had looked at the Lincoln Suite Bed Quilt earlier and had been trying to figure out how the center was assembled. The photo is not as clear as I would like for that purpose, but I am pretty sure the center blocks (nine of them) are all pieced the normal way (no paper piecing). It appears there would be some set-in seams in the green and blue sections. You might want to ask Darlene or Karen, as they might be able to tell you more.

Hi Barbi, You're right my Northwind block does look a little different but it really is the same block I just placed the light and dark fabrics differently. I don't always look at the picture in the book when I'm doing it - otherwise I probably would have done it like it shows in the book. That's what makes quilting fun though - so many possibilities!
