Thoughts on becoming a grandmother

Posted on March 7, 2009 at 10:25am 9 Comments

I just found out I am to become a grandmother for the first time! My son & his girlfriend (yes, I wish it was his wife - I already sang that song to them 2 years ago when they moved in together but they were not listening - I refuse to punish an innocent baby by withholding my affections because they are not married) are going to be parents in September. I am really excited and thank the Lord, I love his girlfriend as if she were my own daughter - he's had some doozies, but happily, he… Continue

I just updated my photos - and I just realized that if you move your cursor over the bottom of the photos, there is a navigation bar that pops up with a tab that you can click for information on each photos. Seems like I learn something new about this forum every day!! I love seeing the photos just to re-live the fun weekend.

While at my retreat at Caroline's Sewing Room in West Branch, MI this past weekend, the soon to be owner of a new quilt shop came in. I also learned of one other shop that will be opening soon, and a third that has just opened. They are:

Quilt Inn (tentative name) - Frankenmuth, MI -- YES!! I've been saying we need a shop in this town for a long time! According to the owner, it will probably not be until the summer. She will have overnight space for retreats as well as the shop &… Continue

Weekend Quilt Retreat At Caroline's Sewing Room - West Branch, MI

Posted on March 4, 2009 at 6:31pm 2 Comments

What a great weekend it was! I took Friday off from work and took my time packing & heading north. I only had to go back once after I realized I'd forgotton my camera & my refrigerated food! Luckily I was only 6 miles down the road.

I made a pit stop at the Prime Outlets in Birch Run for a little retail therapy, stopped & got a Chai Creme Frappucino at Starbucks and got back on the road. The weather was blue skies all the way. I arrived at around 3pm. Got everything… Continue

SIgns of Spring, Vet Visits & Spending the Night in a Quilt Shop

Posted on February 26, 2009 at 5:21pm 3 Comments

Today on the way home from work I saw two signs of spring. #1 was a guy on a motorcycle - on February 26 in Michigan!!! And the other was a Mustang convertible with it's top down in a car dealer lot. I don't think we're done with snow yet - but 45 felt really nice.

On a different note, Shorty, the new Mi Ki in the house (he came on 2/10) had his first visit to the vet to get checked out. Bobbin, his 1/2 brother, came along too. He shook a lot, but Bobbin, who gets groomed there &… Continue

Hmmm... off the top of me head, I don't know but what is your time frame?  I will work on it by asking around.  I know of a B&B but it is further down by Champaign IL.  They also offer quilt retreats.  I'll look them up and send you the web address.

Hi Mary, just read your comment today. I also am not visiting this site as often as I could. I am trying to start some new projects but with the hot weather it is difficult. The fall season for us in California comes later in October and November. It is in the high 90's again today. Have a good week.

Hi Mary, Lord, forgive me for not getting back to you sooner. I just haven't, until recently, had a lot of time to read, much less get on line. I received an Associates Degree on May 7th in the Arts. I'm a fiber artist, in addition to making fully jointed teddy bears 1 inch and larger, and I can take your child's drawings, maccaroni pictures, etc. and duplicate them in fiber, right down to their little signature without any damage to the original pictures. I paint and do photography on fabric as well, not to mention embroidery, weaving, beadwork, etc.

Hope you and yours had a fantastic 4th and do forgive me for not responding sooner. - Namaste - Terri

May, I must apologize for not responding to your message of February ... geesh! Things just seem to get in the way. I graduated from Alpena Community College with an Associates in Arts and did so cum laude. At 59, that surprised me. Best part was graduating side by side with my son - he graduated suma cum laude. Told me it would have been embarrassing if his ma got better grades than he did . Any who, I'm a fiber artist, dabble in lots of things, mostly quilting and taking children's art and replacating it in fabric. I can take your child's earliest drawings, right down to their signature and reproduce it in fabric without any damage to your original art work. I'm trying to get this off the ground here, will let you know how it goes. Can't hurt to try. You'll have to let me know where you are in Michigan and perhaps we can meet. Have a wonderful day - Namaste - Terri in beautiful, but cool, Ossineke, Michigan

Thanks for getting back to me. I enjoyed reading all your blogs. You sound like your having fun. I enjoy being a grandmother and wait until you are. Our newest grandson, Jason, is only 9 days old.....tiny little guy. I babysat my 10 month old grandson, Andrew, today and again tomorrow, and our 3rd grandson is Alex, 3 yrs. and is in day care now with other kids. He loves it. You are going to bust your buttons when that little person gets here.

Hi Mary, I haven't heard from you in awhile so I decided to drop by and say hi. I have been in a slump lately with sewing but I finally got over it and I'm back at it. It's hard to sit in the basement and sew when the weather is so nice but I try. I hope all is well with you. Cindy

I have many friends there and I just love to check out their fabric stores. With the tradewinds there isn't a lot of humidity that is noticeable - all the fabric I bought was in superb condition.
