Profile Information

I've been quilting a long time. My first quilt was a little doll quilt out of preprinted quilt like fabric for my doll when I was 6 or 7. I loved sewing and the scraps just naturally led to quilts. My first big quilt was a trupunto style one made out of cotton sheets made on a borrowed frame when I was in college. My children still have the scrappy 4 inch blocks made for when they were on bunk beds because I can't throw out the memory of this dress or that shirt. When the kids were in high school, I made a quilt for all their friend's graduations which allowed me to buy lots of fabric and try lots of different techniques.

Some of my prized possessions are my paternal grandmother's quilts and one of my mother's very worn everyday quilts.

Now, I work part time from home and traveling across Montana and Wyoming. My sewing area is 6 feet from my phone so I get good opportuntiy to work on lots of projects but have gotten so used to not finishing that it is becoming a habit. My children are grown, but still in college (maybe for ever?) in Washington State and northern California. I have a beautiful, hyperactive Newfoundland dog I got from a rescue who needs a walk (ok, she needs a run, I can only walk) at least once a day. My yard has scattered flowers and vegetables all over. We enjoy traveling to see the kids, camping in our truck camper, hiking in "our" park (Yellowstone), and rafting the great rivers around here. I knit socks (slowly) and a lifetime ago, had sheep and learned to spin their wool into yarn. Needless to say, I don't live up to my heritage of keeping a spotless house.

quilt kits giveaway

Posted on March 25, 2017 at 2:17pm 9 Comments

We are downsizing and moving.   There are 2 boxes of my quilt "kits".  Some are already pieced but need the applique, one just needs quilting, several are just fabrics that go good together.

I'll mail the boxes to a person or group who will use them for good.

City View Quilting

Posted on July 30, 2015 at 1:04pm 5 Comments

I bought the Connecting Threads quilt kit called City View using beautiful leafy Batik fabrics.  It went together in an impressive 4 hours max.City View Pattern Has anyone else made this and quilted it?  My first thoughts were to straight line quilt it, making kind of a grid of the windows.  That seems to clash with the leafy batik.  Yet I don't want busy quilting to obstruct the fabric design.

Has anyone had experiences they would, or wouldn't repeat quilting up this pattern?…

It's time to clean up a few of the UFOs. Some are stuck on the shelf for a reason.

I copied the spider web pattern  a few years ago, and obviously, my printer didn't get the angles quite right, so I had to adjust a bit and not all the corners are perfect.   When I was ready  to attach the centers they became…

Double wedding ring binding

Posted on February 10, 2013 at 9:49am 6 Comments

Life has gotten so busy here!  I just got back my daughter's DWR from the quilter.  She was married Sept. 1, 2012.

A week later, I laid it out to decide on what to bind it with and when I stopped at the quilt store, the owner said she always does a French (fold in half) binding cut on the bias for curves. I've only done one other Double Wedding Ring and a few scalloped edge quilts and always used a bias binding that I ironed to look like bias tape- machine sewing on the front hand…

Thank you for your kind comment on my crazy quilt! Working on it really helped me as I was coming to terms with the loss of my mother as I knew her. I'm so glad you like it. I had a good time trying out new embroidery stitches, but I'm ready to work on some thing a little more colorful now!

Bonnie - I designed the quilt. I think I got the idea from another, then used my EQ7 and came up with the design.  I would be happy to share it with you if you want it.

Bonnie, I am glad that you suggest I look for tutorials online!  Please, if you have any that are specific, let me know by all means!!  I am not offended at all!  I try to search online as often as I can, sometimes I just don't have the time so when someone such as yourself has specific recommendations (or reminds me to get out of the stoneage and that there is a WEB full of info) I appreciate it!

It is such a small world.  I left Quincy in 1969 and have been in Reno every since.  My parents remained in Quincy until their deaths which were in the 80's so we've no one left there now.

I watched the video on MSQC several times and was vasalating between doing a binding or not.  My backing fabric and the outer border are the same fabric but very very bold and busy and I'm afraid that I can't get the binding to go the proper direction to coincide with the border so I was thinking of not using a binding, just joining the layers.  I probably should have explained that earlier.

Bonnie, I just droped in and saw your message.  I haven't been around for a while.  I have had a lot of health problems.  So sorry about the swap, I actually forgot I had signed up.  I apologize and hope I didn't create a big problem for the members.
