Burtine, I use a white pencil to mark the quilting pattern on dark fabric. Sometimes a light grey pencil will work too. I just had dark flowered fabric that I had a problem with but found the white pencil did work. Hope this helps.
Hi Burtine...your email came back to me. I must have copied it down wrong, however, here is the address for Anna's Guild President. She is going to present her with all the donations at the June annual meeting.
Her name and address is: Lorna D'Orsay, 802-28 Greenpark Close, Halifax, NS B3S 0A1..many thanks and God Bless!
Hi Burtine,
I hope that you are successful finding borders for your Mulberry Bali Pops. I am sure the people at Earthly Goods will be very helpful. The Cottons and More store is on Argyll ( 63 Avenue ) and about 87 Street. It is next door to Central Sewing 's south store. A good place to find Batiks is Quilter's Dream on 124 sTREET AND 108 aVE. I am sure you will find what your looking for- there are a number of places with good choices. There is also Quilt Essentials in St Albert itself.
I hope your sister' surgery goes well and that you have a nice time together while you are there helping her out.
Regards,
Anna
Hi Burtine I live in Ontario and have neen quilting about 30 yrs. If you don't like the class atmosphere you can take lessons on line from quilt university . I have taken three classes with them and the notes you get are great and the teachers have been excellent Please excuse the typing and spelling not my forte LOL Good Luck A good starter book is Fon and Porter Quilters complete guide I still use it for reference.
Hi Burtine - for some reason I missed a couple of messages earlier today - including yours - so I apologize for not responding to you. I worked in an accounting office as the secretary for 20 years - we started out with AES which was a dedicated word processor and did nothing else. From there we went to computers and used WordPerfect which is far and away a much better program than Word. But the office had to keep up with filing requirements of government agencies, so we went to Microsoft. After I got used to using it, it wasn't so bad, but like you, I hated being forced to use Bill Gates' products.
We got our Macs - mostly because I was intrigued by them and partly because my husband's business partner uses them. We both find them very user-friendly and easy learn. I even managed to do all the networking - the IMac, MacBook and three printers. My sister, who is the computer guru in our family, wishes she had bought a Mac when she got her new computer a few months ago.
If I have to get another computer, it will certainly be a Mac.
Burtine, I never thought to tell you that when I did the Sunflower pattern I machine quilted it. It was so easy to do. That is why it was a little tricky to get around the circle. If you put lace on both sides, it would cover the stitching around the circle. Have fun and don't forget to let me see the pictures.
I live in St. Albert, Alberta with my husband of 47 years. Our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter live in nearby Edmonton. Our son is a major in the Canadian Forces and is based in Ottawa. He is to be married next April and we will acquire a new grandson as well as a very welcome daughter in law. I am a retired accountant and love being retired. In addition to the sewing I play bridge weekly and meet with a knitting group weekly. I am fairly new to quilting and learn something new every day. I love to dye silk scarves and am learning the Shibori method which of course can also be applied to cottons for use in the quilts.
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, applique, hand quilting, machine quilting, embroidery, general sewing, knitting, gardening
My Pets
We love the Border Collies and Australian Shepherds but no long have one.
I have not been able to attempt this skill due to arthritis in some of my fingers. However, I recently received a book and DVD from The Thimble Lady in Australia. She has a very unique way to hand quilt and I think the only reason I will not be able to master this will be my own lack of practice. She also makes made to order thimbles for those who might be interested.
I look forward to a pleasant learning/sharing experience with all the members of this group.
