About Me
I have been a quilter for over 35 years! My favorite quilts are the traditional ones. I especially like scrap quilts and am busy trying to use up my scrap collection, making quilts of my own design. A couple of years ago I began publishing patterns for some of my designs. I also enjoy giving lectures/workshops for quilt groups

Taggie Blankie Update

Posted on March 12, 2010 at 1:58pm 1 Comment

I just got back from spending 2 weeks in Oklahoma with my daughter and family. Remember the Taggie Blankie I made for my granddaughter for Christmas? I got to see it "in action"! It is a favorite quiet toy during Sunday morning church. It is a favorite soothing toy for nap time. And no longer is it just a hat. Granddaughter pulls it off her head and giggles as we say "Peek-A-Boo"! She seems to have one favorite tag--the wide turquoise embroidered ribbon. That one has more texture to it than the… Continue

Snow Day

Posted on February 10, 2010 at 10:45am 3 Comments

We finally got some measurable snow overnight! Schools are closed for the day so that means my usual activities are canceled. A sewing snow day for me! I'm having fun working out a scrappy snowman design. Plus I'm working with some old Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks. I guess I'm not happy unless I have several projects in the works at one time! Some days I wish I were one of those who sees a project to completion before starting another one. I would certainly have fewer UFOs that way!

Back to quilting!

Posted on January 31, 2010 at 1:47pm 3 Comments

I'm finally back to my quilting projects after many weeks away! Holiday company and travels took up two weeks in late December. Then studying income tax law and software took up most of 3 weeks in January! I teach a refresher class for a local group of AARP TaxAide volunteers. I spent many hours reviewing and learning what is new this year in order to be able to explain it to 12 students. Very intense and stressful! (But wonderful brain exercise!)

As promised, I finally posted a couple of… Continue

Christmas Sewing Completed

Posted on December 19, 2009 at 5:00am 3 Comments

I've finished all the sewing I'd planned to do for Christmas presents. Company's coming so I have to clean up my sewing area (the dining room!). My machine is put away, along with all the in-progress machine stitched projects, but I've kept out some hand work. I know that sometime during the holidays I'll need to put a needle in my hand! A great stress-reliever!
A very Merry Christmas to everyone...may your Christmas projects be completed before Christmas Eve! :)

New Pictures

Posted on December 10, 2009 at 6:23pm 2 Comments

I've posted some new pictures--pictures of all the things I have been making for the little ones in my life. These little things don't use up many scraps, but they certainly are fun to make!
I can't wait to see how the 8-month-old likes all the tags on her "taggie blankie"! :)

Very cute, Joana! And easy, too, right? A fun way to use up those little bits of trim that you can't bear to throw away! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas, too!

Hi, Carol--I made one of the taggie blankies this afternoon for my DH's new little grandniece. Her GM and GGM are coming for breakfast tomorrow and can take it home to her then. Thank you for your help--I'll do better on the next one, but it came out pretty well (even though I absentmindedly turned the ribbons the wrong way at first and had to unsew them). Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Carol for the quilting pep talk. I am trying not to be so hard on myself, but I still hold my breath when someone comes close to see a finished project. family loves the quilting and really that is who most of what I do is for.

You are so kind to share the instructions for the taggie blanket. I'm sure your grandbaby will love it. My son was just crawling at his first Christmas, and we wondered how much damage to the tree might happen--but he would get himself to the tree and then rub the ribbons on the packages between his fingers until we picked him and moved him away. By Christmas, the tree and packages were all intact, except for some very frayed ribbons.

Hi, Carol--I love the "little things" you are making, especially the taggie blanket. Would you mind giving me some brief instructions about how you make them? I have to put some things in the sale at our quilt show and that would be perfect.

I enjoyed making doll clothes so much--but not Barbie clothes. Those tiny sleeves would make me lose my patience every time. I make all my DD's dresses too--and she really had some precious ones. I've tried doing some sewing for her recently, though, and the clothes don't seem to fit well. But she has already told me that she wants me to make dresses for her little girls someday--I think I can deal with that.
