About Me
I have been quilting for over 30 years. I do a lot of machine piecing, prefer to quilt by hand, although lately I have been quilting on my domestic machine more just to get things finished. Many of my quilts are bed size (queen and king) so it takes awhile to get them quilted. I have begun making some smaller items, table runners, and wall hangings because they do take less time to complete.
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, applique, paper piecing, hand quilting
My pets are awesome!
We are owned by two cats.

Quilt Basting

Posted on June 26, 2016 at 1:02pm 8 Comments

Basting a quilt, either with thread or with pins, has never really been high on my favorite quilting activities.  Lately it has even become more of effort.

I have never been able to baste a quilt on the floor.  Injuries to both my knees, resulting from a car accident when I was in my 20s, has kept me from kneeling for any length of time for any reason.

I used to go into the church fellowship hall, set up some of the 8-foot long tables, push them together, layer my quilt…

I love the Roman Stripe pattern, too.  If I were going to hand quilt it, I wouldn't like it to be foundation pieced, as this one was.  I think I'd just sew strips and deal with the bias edges.  They'd be paired with the straight of grain triangle piece next to it, so I don't think it would be a problem.  I would like to make a grown-up version with truer rainbow colors for our bed. Another bucket-list quilt. (sigh).  :)

It's awful cold here this week, but we've had a pretty mild fall over all.  Sure do  need the moisture pretty badly.  I hope to get back to some quilt projects soon.  Need to work on a graduation quilt for a niece (high school), and a couple of baby quilts for family (nieces & nephews).  Sure haven't been too motivated in that regard lately for some reason.  I've been doing some smaller crochet projects just to keep my hand work craving satisfied.  Hope all is well with you.

I am an absolute newbie. I use Mastersorks II for digitizing machine embroidery, Photoshop for pictures, and other computer programs proficiently. I just haven't given EQ the time it deserves to learn it.
