About Me
Hi! I'm passionate about patchwork - and I particularly love old quilts. I have about 50 wonderful books to study (when I have the time!) as well as collecting old quilts. I have been stitching for about ten years. A lot of my work is over papers (hexagons, etc), all stitched by hand. I do foundation, machine and hand piecing as well and our large family (13 g/children), as well as our children, almost all have quilts. I belong to Victoria Quilters and do "Angel Duty" whenever I can at the shows. I'm also a member of the Riverina Quilters (West Victoria where some of the bushfires are burning still). Most of my friends now are quilters, and what a fabulous group of women they are. I am a company M/Director (prestige cars), adore my two Berman cats and new puppy (Raffles, whose middle name is "Feral"!). I was a Court Reporter in the Supreme Court of Victoria for 20 years, and worked on murder trials, kidnapping, lots of drug and armed robbery trials writing Pitman's shorthand up to 250 wpm. I retired from that and was drawn into our own business (just a half a day a week, darling!!!! - almost full-time now!) Born in England, I have a twin sister, Annie, who also loves stitching. We have been in Australia since we turned 14 (looooong time ago!). I hate the heat (44 deg. Celsius a couple of weeks ago - hence "Black Saturday" bushfires). We weren't directly affected (other than trying to breathe! ) although some of my friends and acquaintences were, but none injured. My husband Bob is a car dealer (well, I guess we both are!) and we sell used Rolls Royce, Jaguar and classic cars. He is passionate about cars, I am not! We are looking forward to visiting Auburn, Indianna in August for the Auburn, Cord, Duessenberg car club meet, then heading to Vancouver to the Rockies and a trip on the boat to see the ice. We have six children between us, my daughter Rebecca works in insurance and son Paul is a policeman. What else can I tell you - my husband says I'd talk underwater with a mouthful of marbles - and looking at this screed, I guess he is right! ;-)) Can't wait to get home from work to continue working on my Wigg's Defeat quilt - to be called "Kate's Conquest" if I ever get it finished! Still working on a large Mariner's Compass (completed 16 of the blocks) and just about ready to bury it under my stash, and a large hexagon quilt. So many quilts, not enough time ........ Best wishes to all my brothers and sisters in quilting. Kate

Finding the room under the stash ....

Don't know about any of you, but I've always had a problem with my stash. In the early days, about ten years ago, I could sneak the fabric into the linen press and hide it under the sheets and towels. Of course it didn't take too long before I had to start throwing out the bed linen to make way for more important things, like antique quilts and unquilted tops bought on ebay, and a few fat quarters which immediately bred in the dark like mushrooms. I was starting to feel the squeeze a little,… Continue

Kate, thanks for asking me to be your friend. No worries, take your time getting pictures up. I don't have any up yet, as I have to find the CD's that they are on for starters and then I need my daughter's help to get them on the site............
Take it slow and we will enjoy it much better, that's what I love about quilting........ I do it at my own pace!
