About Me
I am a happily married mother of three and grandmother of seven wonderful children. Though I've been sewing for nearly 48 years, I only taught myself to quilt 15 years ago. I love quilting and my favorite method is hand work...hand piecing, hand applique, and hand quilting, though I am going to work on reviving and improving my machine quilting skills in 2009 & 2010.

My Journey Into Landscape Quilts

For a long time now I have been interested in landscape quilts, so when my guild offered a class to make hand appliqued mini landscape quilts, I jumped at the chance to finally make one. While I didn't come away from the class with learning anything much new, it was fun and caused me to finally get around to making one. The best part of the class was that it challenged me to grow and explore something that I've wanted to learn for a long time now, and I'm thrilled that I have!

Yesterday I finis… Continue

Beautiful!

It's a beautiful morning here, with clouds in the sky and rain coming down. We finally have rain that is worthy of the name, as we've been very dry around here for a long time. I love the rain, which is ironic given where I live. I feel cooler just looking out of my quilting room window.

A few minutes ago I saw something else that was beautiful, and that was a landscape or art quilt that my friend B J Elder/WA posted a couple of days ago. It is a gorgeous quilt done by a very gifted quilter, an… Continue

Yea! They're Finished!

I finally finished those three quilts for my friend to take with her to Guatemala! Hopefully I have finished them before she leaves, as she didn't tell me when she would be leaving this month. This was a UFO of sorts because she gave me the fabric panel for the fronts just before our dgd arrived to stay for the summer, and I didn't get any real sewing done while she was here. So it feels really good to have them finally done.

One of the things that I've been looking forward to when I finished,… Continue

My Guild's Quilt As You Go Project

I've never worked on a quilt that was constructed with a "quilt as you go" method, so it was with great excitement that I have been participating in my guild's project this summer. We have been making a queen sized quilt together and it has been so much fun! We aren't finished yet, but are stitching down the strips on the back of the rows to cover the raw edges before we attach the rows to each other.

It was easy to piece the blocks, which actually quilted them in that same step! Sewing the str… Continue

Back To Sewing Again

One of our dgd's has been living with us since the latter part of May, except on weekends. It has been a pure joy to have had this opportunity to spend so much time with her. Sadly, our summer with her was over when her mommy picked her up on Tuesday afternoon. We all miss each other terribly, though she's very excited about starting school this coming Monday.

For me it is the opportunity to get back to quilting and having time for other activities that I've missed being able to do over the las… Continue

LOL We always called them "goatheads". By any name, they still hurt when you step on one. I have never been one to like to wear shoes, so I stepped on alot of them as a kid. I grew up in Bloomfield, NM.

A bin of orphan blocks is a great idea. I have alot of leftover blocks cut out but not pieced together. Think I will try to dig them out next time I am home and see what I can put together.

My old truck had a skylight too, but also had a top bunk that blocked most of the light. This one is great. I have plenty of daylight to see to sew during the day and enough lights to turn on that are incredibly bright at night. Maybe will help my eyesight last a little longer without having to strain to see. Was getting to where I only sewed when I had time during the day.
Plus all the skylights have curtains if I want to block the sun to keep it cooler in the summer. They are on tracks and just slide across.

HI, I live in West Phoenix. I don't belong to a guild at this time. Mainly because it is hard to find one that works with my work schedule. So, I take classes and use the internet for keeping up with what is going on in the quilting world. I do go to the Az Quilters Guild Quilt Show every year. Love to see all the beautiful quilts on display and to visit the Merchant Mall to see what I can't live without. You know you can't go to a quilt show without buying something.

It was nice chatting with you; hope to chat again soon.

Welcome to "Love of Art Quilts", as CottonWood Quilter has stated, you will enjoy our group! I did leave a message that I also love your landscape quilt. Cornwoman, please pardon me...I am excited because I see one on my friends on your page and I just have to wave at her!! Hi Francine!! It is a pleasant surprise to see your face.

Cornwoman, recently Francine came to Las Vegas for a visit and we kidnapped her all day and had a ball "shop-hopping". We met on-line through a referral from Karen, here on CT. I have a pending story for another blog about her visit.

Thanks, Cornwoman for allowing me to say HI to my friend. Will you be my friend?
