About Me
Love artsy-quilty experimenting - with Tyvek, Lutradur, heat gun, embellishing, free-motion sewing, etc. I have to get past "what's it going to be" because most of the time I have no earthly idea - and NO, I might not "finish" it! I took over teaching a friend's quilting classes for a couple of years over 20 years ago when she moved to Ontario. I have made only two or three traditional quilts. My grandmother made each of her grandchildren a quilt before she died. I gave mine to my beautiful niece (whom my grandmother never knew) as a wedding gift.

I love threaded needles - hate housework!

Hi Dale - I made changes to our group pages. Simplified. Now, our Member Talk page will just be the page that has our group name on it which shows the members.
I removed some pages and combined some. I went way crazy with too many discussion areas I thought. This is what being laid off is doing to me...aahhhh!
Okay, so now it will be nicer I think.

Hi Dale - I posted a challenge (sounds slightly threatening, huh? ;) but really is harmless and voluntary) in the Paper-Cloth Group. Just thought I'd go ahead and think of something, just in case someone wanted to jump in. Don't ever think you have to, it is completely voluntary. I finally got it all thought through how it could go.....Have a nice weekend!

Hi! I'm crawling in bed, but glad to have you in Paper/Cloth Fusion. Talk to you soon, and I'll be back in AM to admire your quilts on your page! So glad you have lots of pets, especially cats!

Had to chuckle, my BFF is also Catherine. Whenever we're quilt shop hopping, those that know us have come to call us "the two Kathy's". Now when we have my mother with us, it's the three Kathy's.

Hi Dale! Am finally in Cold Lake for 6 days so will spend a bit of time on the computer catching up. Absolutely must stop procrastinating about getting the internet in at Rocky since I am planning to spend most of the winter months there so it would be nice to be able to "talk" to friends. Your Hot Chocolate blog was delightful and it sounds like you had a wonderful summer. What are you quilting now?
And hope your Monday is a happy one.

Hi Dale - you were very restrained, doubt that I would have been able to come out without spending more than that. It was great that you were able to meet Jamnut and may well do so again in the future, its great to meet fellow quilt enthusiasts. If Jamnut spent a lot more than you, I would have loved to have a peek in her bag! I was amazed at the number of quilt shops we found in Alaska and the variety of patterns and fabrics - needless to say I brought a sampling home!

Wouldn't it be great if the three of us could meet up on Saltspring Island, what a great name for a place!

Do you live in Ladysmith?--I don't recall where in BC but do remember the name--we lived in Vancouver for 13 years almost 30 years ago --fabulous scenery and really nice folks--great for art!! I was a spinner, weaver and dyer--not appropriate for Texas, so I switched to quilting--and still a little knitting. Greetings!!

It was great meeting you in Vancouver. We had a great time on the cruise and enjoyed spending time with Pat and Paul when we got to Junea, it just was not long enough at either meeting. Maybe we shall have to come back again? I have only just got over the jetlag, we had a horrendous journey home and every time I sat down in a comfortable chair, I fell asleep, no matter what time of day. Thankfully it seems to have passed now.

I did have a look at the other group and read your little piece there, I have down loaded the photos (a bit dark but the one with the 3 of us is not too bad) so I will go on there and put up the photo.

Haven't done any research on the Battisons yet, but will let you know when I do and if I come up with anything.

Remembrance Day in Canada

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we remember them. To my fellow Canadian Quilters - please wear your poppy.

More Chocolate Please!

I went on a nearly-two-hour road trip with a friend today - to Courtenay, BC where there is a store called "Hot Chocolate". It was cold, windy and raining. I directed my friend to 5th Street. She is unfamiliar with Courtenay. We got out and wandered to where Hot Chocolate had been and IT WASN'T THERE!!!!! Then I remembered that another friend had told me it had moved, but I couldn't remember where. We ran back to the car (dodging raindrops), hopped in (cranked the heater and defroster) and were… Continue

It was a Lovely Evening

I had a lovely dinner and visit with Pat from the UK and her husband. We were not able to figure out the connection based on the limited information I have, but we think it goes back to my great-great grandfather. Further research is required. I gave them some copies of old family photos and I think I saw a *very* slight resemblance between Pat's husband and my grandfather ... !

They are on their way to Alaska tomorrow and I understand they are meeting another QWU member in Juneau. I am quite s… Continue

I Met Family on this Site!

Tomorrow I will meet a relative of some degree who is also a member of QWU. She is coming to Vancouver, BC Canada from England to go on an Alaskan cruise. We don't yet know how we are related, but I am sure we will be able to figure it out. It's probably at least 3 or 4 generations back. I am very excited to meet her!

CHEERIES

A few years ago, on one of the first lovely, warm summery days in July, I saw a sign advertising "cheeries" above a basket of beautiful, black, juicy cherries. I thought "how true - cheeries". Nothing says "cheery" quite like "cherries".

Anyway, fast-forward about 5 years. We are living on our dream property. It has eight apple trees, one yellow plum tree, one peach tree, one pear tree, two hazelnut trees, one newly-purchased Italian prune plum tree, peach tree and Bing cherry tree. Two mature… Continue
