About Me
I'm a country girl who enjoys the outdoors along with sewing and cooking.
I quilt but need all the help I can get. I have made two Queen size quils, one a Double Wedding Ring for my youngest daughter from fabric scraps that I had saved from her childhood and it took a long time, I put my own finishes on it, I did some machine embrodiery on each corner then handstichted all around the border a tumbling hearts design.I did not take any pics but will get my daughter to take some and email to me and maybe I can figure out how to post them. The first one was just a no design one I did for my oldest daughter as a wedding gift and it too was made from scraps from her child hood. It was the first one for me and I really didn't know what I was doing but it looks OK. I've also made a few baby quilts for friends and my two granddaughters.

I also like to do Crewel work and have done a few pieces for friends and I did a Picture quilt wall hanging for my Mom and myself.

I'm in the process of making myself a quilt just using some CT Samples. I am going to make my granddaughters each a Sunbonnet Sue and will get started after I finish mine.

I also enjoy Genelogy and have been working on my family tree. I love to Snowshoe and hike.

Winter's Coming

I was potting some fall flowers and moved a pot to empty the old dirt and under it was this snake inside a brick so I dumped most of the dirt and put the pot back without flowers, just used the others. Don't think it's a bad snake so will leave it alone and hope for the best next spring when it comes out hungry. Well I tried and tried to add the pic with no luck, I will have to get some help to figure this out. The pic is on my page.

have a great weekend everyone

Aurora Quilt Show

Hey all you folks close enough don't forget about the Aurora Quilt show that goes from Oct 16th to the 25th. Wish I could attend, maybe one day I can come back for that.

Yesterday was cool and rainy, I call those "Oregon" days and I miss them. Today is cooler but just a little misty this morning then some sun.

Have a great day everyone

Happy tuesday everyone, we're having a beautiful sunny day but rain the rest of the week and cooler too.

I posted some pic's of a skirt I made for Margaret. For some reason when I added the bottom ruffel it balloned on the top, not sure I like it or not but it's for Margaret so will let her decide if she likes it. Am making a jumper for the little one with the same pink so she won't be left out.

I decided on what to do for the backing on the "Sue". I'm using 5" charms and will sew them togethe… Continue

Halfway done!

Yea, I got the top together yesterday for the "Sue's", now have to decide on something for the backing. Margaret is in a hurry to get her quilt but think it will be her Christmas present.

We're having a nice fall but the "blood suckers" are still here and I can't do much outside without bathing in "off" and too much of that stuff makes my Asthma rear up, hopefully they will die soon but I know it will take a hard freeze to get rid of them.

Happy Quilting Everyone

What day is it?

Have been running around a lot it seems. Yesterday took M to the dr. then to the lab for her regular blood draw then the drug store, got some fast food to take home and the grocery store. I was worn out after all that runing around. She has been feeling better this last week, think the food has done the trick. today I was at the garage with my car again, had a loose belt and needed to get that taken care of and they told me I needed a starter too, I just had to have a pump replaced last month pl… Continue

Good morning, Dawn! Thanks for commenting on my foggy morning post. It was such a pretty morning. DH usually doesn't ask me to ride if there are other men helping, but desperate times/desperate measures. He was one hand short and I was it. :0) I never want to embarrass him. He'd saddled a younger horse for me and I wasn't sure what to expect. At my age, I have nothing to prove, so I'd just as soon ride the broke horses. We got along fine, though.

I still love your Sue blocks. All the lace and embroidery embellishment - really adds. I'm working on a table runner. Usually don't work with pink too much, but this particular pattern caught my eye and I like the way it is turning out. I'll try to get a picture posted when it is finished. Also hope to get to some Christmas gift projects before long. My work bench is a mess with fabrics tossed everywhere.

Hugs from Nebraska. PQ

Hey Dawn, congrats on your 11 pds. You should blog about it with us and tell us what you are doing. I sure could lose about 50 pds ... no kidding either.

I also wish you were still in the Portland area to join in on a quilting group. I just think it would be fun the have some quilting fellowship to get together and sew, share patterns, lunch whatever. So what are you up to? Hows your mom? I have to admit, I've been messing around sewing on crafty type stuff lately. I've made several little fabric baskets, tote bags and now I'm on the hunt for the pattern of the little chick pincushions that Barb posted on her blog. They are adorable. I've seen them before, but for some reason they really appeal to me right now. Probably cause like I said I'm in the crafty mood. I've been off work for a week due to my back going out and the off work part is nice, but the back issue is a bummer. It is a job just to lean over and cut something out. I see the ortho, back doc next week. Hey...have you ever done any of the English paper piecing? I finally ordered the kit of the little pin cushions today. I've been looking and drooling over them for weeks now....hope its easy! :)
Whats the weather doing in SC? boy the news shows the snow issue up north in DC, maine, NY really bad for this time of year. What a winter for everyone. Our weather is Oregon normal...rain, sun, rain but the crockus and tulips are beginning to come up so I beginning to think Spring is on the way....thank goodness. Gotta run.....my doggie wants me to take her out. Have a nice afternoon/eve.

Good t hear back from you. I bought a quilt journal. I wanted to keep a record of what I was doing. It has spaces to log the start and stop date, commens, fabrics used and photos. I'm really glad I started it and just wish I had done it sooner. Look forward to chatting more with you. Deb

SC is a long way from the Columbia River Gorge. Did you used to live in Oregon or Washngton? I love the gorge, especially the drive along all the waterfalls. But you are right... it can get very windy.

Hi Dawn,
Glad to have you as a friend. Sounds like you really jumped right in when you started making quilt. Queen size are so hard to quilt on a home machine. Did you even get your coat to come out ok that you were working on? I tried for a while to sew clothing, but I was not good at it at all. I think I will just stick to quilting. I have been having so much trouble and pain in my hand and arm that I haven't been able to sew since early December. I am having surgery on February 17th, so I will hopefully be back to sewing soon. I leave this Friday to go to Florida for a week. My brother is getting married there. I am really looking forward to going. Still have a few things to pack yet, so I better get going. Take care and keep in touch.

Howdy do.....So you mentioned you lived in Hillsboro for 14yrs...did you move back to S. Carolina to be with/near family? I've never been there, how differant is it from Oregon? Do you have any family here?
I didn't get any sewing done this past weekend as we went to Tillamook to visit my dad. Today I spent running around doing errands but tonight I'm going to spend at least 2 hrs. in my sewing/craft room to straighten and organize it a bit. I guess by reading everyones blogs that I'm not alone on having a messy sewing room as everyone mentions they are or need to work on cleaning them. hehe I've decided that I just need to stop plopping stuff down where ever!
I agree with you on the "Aurora" book....Jane did a wonderful job researching and writing it. I actually came across the book by walking through the book area at our Costco.....a great find. I've been meaning to go back and pickup another one for a friend of mine that lives in Wallace Idaho for a christmas gift next christmas.
I have a lot of projects I'm working on but I'm excited and waiting for a pattern for a table runner I ordered from one of our ladys on this site, she lives in Moses Lake, Wa. She has some pretty nice patterns, some easier than others. If you wanted to look at her patterns, look her up in the "Quilters" section...her name is Debbie Snyder. I love this site...it has been so much fun to make friends and share our lives and ideas. Well...kept you long enough...gotta run and get to my room cleaning, later....
