Strawberry Saturday

Posted on April 14, 2013 at 11:30am 14 Comments

Driving home from treatment on Friday, we saw a roadside strawberry salesman pawning his products.  Strawberries galore...big  huge, jucie, and tasty for this time of year....  I couldnt resists, and knew we were low on jam so I bought two flats....You…

UFO-Finished!

Posted on April 12, 2013 at 8:10am 20 Comments

Yeah!  Another UFO is done!  Finished the binding in the car yesterday on the way to and from radiation.

This was another block of the month from our LQS.  It's a Pennsylvania Dutch "Distelfink" Sampler in wool.  Each shape and color has a meaning.  Example:  the star mean protection, hope, energy,…

Finally finished and framed....

Posted on April 10, 2013 at 10:17am 18 Comments

Nobody said I could hang a picture straight...sorry...  Well, I finally finished my last block, the coneflower, right frame, lower left.  I ordered some canvas stretcher bar frames on amazon.com and wrapped the wall hangers over the frames and stapled them in place...Wouldn't you know it, my staple gun quit working…

Words or Photo...Part two

Posted on March 6, 2013 at 7:22am 13 Comments

Okay, I finally finished my pickle dish block.  One photo shows what happened when I followed the photo and the other the words.  I know this block seems difficult but truly it wasn't.  I did end up adding  the eye and the background using a method that they taught us 100 yrs ago.  I folded the eye and background piece  in half...marked the half points, then folded the fan in half and marked the middle of it.... Then I matched them to each other and pinned.  I sewed from the center…

What Do You Do?

Posted on March 5, 2013 at 8:07am 8 Comments

What do you do when you are piecing a block and the photo shows one thing and the words say another?

Just thought I'd ask to see if I'm the only crazy in the bunch.  I'm doing a pickle-dish block and obviously did it WRONG, so I've rip'd it apart (well, not the whole block...just the corner stones) and will put it back together today and get you a photo.  I have a bunch of scraps and thought why not do blocks and make some hot pads for stocking stuffers for my DIL's.  Their's look…

Great News

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 6:48am 31 Comments

Last Thursday I went to my post op appt and got some GREAT NEWS.  The pathology report from my surgery showed NO CANCER cells in any of the margins on the soft tissue or bone that was removed.  YEAH!!!!! Hubby and I have been celebrating all weekend by eating our brains out.  Eating is about the only way we can celebrate right now since I can't go dancing with Wendy the Walker.    I still have 4-5 weeks of radiation to look forward to but that will be a cake walk. I'll know more about that…

A Morning Giggle?

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 6:00am 21 Comments

This was sent to me this morning and I thought I'd share it with you.  All day today, when you are pondering life, or as my mother would say, "contemplating your navel"  think of these two ditties and......smile.

I handed the teller @ my bank a withdrawal slip for $400.00

I said "May I have large bills, please"

She looked at me…

Home and Update

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 7:26am 20 Comments

Good Morning:

Yes I’m home from the hospital and on reduced pain meds enough to trust what may come out of my brain and know that it’s okay to post now.  I had my surgery on Feb 14th and came home on the 15th.  I have two new friends with me, one is Wendy the Walker and the other is Patty the port-a-potty.  We are getting well acquainted with each other and getting quite up close and personal.

The surgery was a little longer than expected and I did end up…

Some Advise please

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 7:50am 17 Comments

In one of my monthly groups, Jo's club, a Jo Morton Club offered through our local quilt shop, we did a little project with wool..(new to me) and this is 1/2 of what I've come up with.  I made this for the powder room as it has moss green walls and I use black and moss green hand towels.  I want to hang it on the wall and I'm considering stapling it to a stretcher frame.  My questions is:  do I add batting and some quilting?  do I just add batting and frame it?  or do I scratch the frame…

SuperBowl Weekend Breakfast.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 10:37am 16 Comments

Well, after my Friday’s blood work came back we had to cancel our plans to go to our son and DIL’s for the Super Bowl weekend game and eat fest.  We had the everything packed up and ready to go when the phone call came in.  It was sure a bummer to have to unpack the car and a cooler full of food.  So you know the old saying when great plans get cancelled and you're told you can't leave the house:  “eat lots of food and get fat”.

I’d thought I share with you a breakfast dish that we…

We have all kinds of wild berries in our backyard, but the birds get to them first and I'm not too keen on walking through the swamp to get to them.  Early June the local farmers will be sharing their berries harvest (pick your own), but I usually go to the locally owned shops and buy my fruits and veggies.

All that jam making must have zapped out your energy - do rest, my friend.
