About Me
I am a US Air Force Veteran. I was a Medic years ago, stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ. Loved it there! I am from farm country. So quilts are close to my heart. I love antique quilts, although I do not own any at this time. I am into history, I love to read. Besides quilting, I also cross stitch, crochet and recently taught myself to knit! I am married to a wonderful man, (pictured with our granddaughter), Marty. He is also an AF veteran. Also pictured with Marty and Alisa is our beloved Landseer Newfoundland, Julie whom we lost to cancer May 31, 2013.
I love hearing from other quilters, so feel free to get in touch!
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, applique, paper piecing, hand quilting, machine quilting, embroidery, general sewing, knitting, garment sewing
My pets are awesome!
We have a small cat, Marina. She is a tortie Persian and very spoiled! We just got Izzy Belle. She is a black Newfoundland puppy and is too cute!

Well Pam aparently no one appologized for ordering this weather! My quilt guild meeting was cancelled...Again. For snow. We only meet once a month which in itself is a bummer. Haven't had a meeting since Nov 7. And that was the night my Dad passed away. Sighs. No wonder it took so long to find my quilting MoJo.

DH and I have our 9 year old DGD for New Years again. She got a Mini Sewing machine and sewing supplies along with some fabric for Christmas. She is so excited to learn and I love that!
She is making a small pillow for her little cousin from Lightning McQueen Cars fabric she picked out. So cute! I can't wait to help her. We had ironing lessons last night. Now she wants a mini iron too! Lol.

Hi Debra!   A fellow Hoosier! :)  I've not been to that camp but my mom and aunt go once, sometimes twice a year.  I went once to visit for the day and all the ladies looked extremely happy!  They have a local quilt shop that sets up a mini quilt shop and it's open all day and night.  When you show up they have someone take all or your stuff in and take your sewing stuff to the sewing room for you.  3 meals a day, drinks all day, nature walks, horses to ride, and sewing till your hearts desire.

Hi, regarding the Hawaiian blocks.  About 15 years ago I bought a series of Hawaiian block patterns from Poakalani in Hawaii.  I had wanted to make a queen size quilt cover, but between my job and other stuff I put it in the back burner.  Now that I am fully retired, I took the patterns out and selected about 16 blocks for the quilt.  She has a website www.poakalani.net and she's also on Facebook.  Last year she featured patterns for the 50 states which I downloaded for free.

I just checked her website and she now sells the patterns individually.  If you're interested I can send you a couple of the simple blocks along with the instructions.  My personal e-mail is acastro_jacq@comcast.net, send me a message and I will reply with the patterns.

Regards - Aida

Debra I think your fabrics will work are you planning to use the large print as number 4. I would use the white as #2 and either the red or brown as your number 1. I have not seen the whole pattern but based on what has been made so far #2 seems to be the back ground and 4 seems to be a focal fabric. Your red and brown seem to be the same shade you might want to consider a lighter shade of either one of them because they will end up next to each other and you would have better contrast if one was more of a medium shade. Your focal fabric also appears to have a green in it you might bring in a medium green as your # 3 and use the brown and red as your #'s 1 & 5 You also may consider a gold like the poo bear as your #6 fabric. I hope the directions that I gave you on how to upload pictures will help. This is just a suggest I don't have the pattern so I am going by what Ann had suggested.

Debra,

Pick a fun focus material, then pull colours from that fabric. Don't be afraid of the darker colours. I made a quilt With sage greens and golds [It was a request} It turned out rather nice. Feminine and soficticated, able to last past the first year.

Hi Debra

Mountain mist polyester is what I was talking about, I haven't used their cotton blend. I would assume their cotton blend is comparable to all the other cotton blends. I was just warned from other LAQ s about the fire hazard of the poly kind.

Hi Debra, The pieces for my fish quilt - the pattern (templates) are bigger...I measured the seam allowance..and they are way bigger than they are suposto. so I do cut off the water and all is fine..Thanks again, Joanna

Debra, thanks for the compliment on my little wallhanging.  You can find the design at www.emblibrary.com.  After you get on their home page, go to the little search box and type in tweets and all of them should come up.  You do have to have an embroidery machine to do them on.  After the stitching was finished I squared the blocks up to 12-1/2" and then added 1" and 3" borders as I wanted to keep it under 20".  Then I just stippled quilted the center and then straight lines 1/2" apart on the outside border.
