Here is a slide show of the first customer quilt of 2009. Not too bad considering I have only had my longarm for 1.5 years - even if i do say so myself. :)

blocks 1 & 2 done for Southern Stars BOM

Posted on January 16, 2009 at 10:44am 4 Comments

I got a chance to sew this morning and got blocks 1 & 2 done and I am really liking the fabrics I chose. I am using a variety of wow & coc for the background fabrics to give it more variety.

Now to get back to other projects that I have lined up, knowing I have this one done for the month. I am also working on a BOM with our local quilt guild and still need to get that block finished. And I have several orphan blocks that I want to… Continue

delays as usual

Posted on January 12, 2009 at 2:29pm 0 Comments

Well I was hoping to get to sew some this week but the massage business has decided to get crazy busy - not that i am complaining mind you because it does pay the bills but it is cutting into my BOM sewing time. haha

Seriously I did get my photo quilt done and ready to go to the embroiderers this week and got my sewing area/longarm area all cleaned up and organized again. I am a terribly messy quilter and have to stay on top of it or my massage clients will revolt i fear. You have to… Continue

Pattern arrived today

Posted on January 10, 2009 at 6:53pm 2 Comments

I received my BOM pattern today and got my fat quarters pressed and cut into sections, then my son asked me to babysit with the two grandbabies (3 and 1 yo) while they get something to eat. I have managed to separate the material into the block groups like the pattern says to. I realy like the way this pattern is written, very easy to follow.

I hope to get started sewing tomorrow (Sunday), will designate the day for sewing projects. I have a photo quilt to make for a customer, got… Continue

My fabric choices for the BOM quilt along

Posted on January 8, 2009 at 1:57pm 6 Comments

I decided to use stash for this - with the exception of the background fabric - will buy some for that.

I think the color may be off a little bit on the photo due to the lighting but i think it is going to be pretty. i hope my pattern gets here soon so I can start on the first 2 blocks. It is going to be fun to piece and then fun to quilt on the longarm - this one will get the works done to it probably.… Continue

First customer quilt of 2009

Posted on January 6, 2009 at 7:00am 1 Comment

I just finished my first customer quilt of 2009 and it is a beauty for sure. I love yellow/blue quilts and this was a nice sampler and she told me to do heirloom quilting on it and i had fun. It is a good thing I got it done too cause I have to babysit the grandkids all day today. Gavin is almost 3 and I can sew and quilt with him and he 'helps' gramma but Gwen is only 1 yo and not much help for sure.…

Debra, you do beautiful work. I too was attracted to the Southern Stars quilt because of the quilting. I saw on one of the discussion groups that you would be interested in longarm quilting other southern stars. I want to enlarge my ss quilt to be large enough for a king sized bed but don't think my shoulders can handle that much quilting. Would you be interested? Do you know how to quilt the pattern on the finished ss quilt? What kind of longarm do you have? Can you post a picture? I am thinking about researching these machines; maybe an investment for retirement.

Debra, I LOVE your photography, and your pretty slide show (how did you do that?) and your wonderful quilting!

I just looked at your photos on webshots. Your Halloween pictures remind me of our family. I have a nice who preplans coordinated costumes for their ever growing family including my 11year old. Last year they were 101 dalmations and the year before Wizard of Oz. Before that we lived in Canada for four years so trick or treated in the snow and coats. After living in Texas that was quite a shock for us. Your quilting looks great. I dream of having a long arm and starting a business one day with it. I am also jealous of your home. I will have that one day also hopefully. We just recently moved to Lafayette LA and I have a wonderful home but I keep teasing my husband and ask him for a "plantation". I tell him it doesn't have to be one of the big ones, just average sized!! Good luck with your quilting and I will check out your website.

Hi Debra, I love the cardinal quilt and your calico kitty is adorable. I'm going to post my fabrics on my page when I'm done with this note. I also will be using my own fabrics and make a Christmas Quilt for my sofa - gotta have some tuxedo cat fabric in it for my Harry as you can see from my photo at left. I was going to make it large enough for my bed, but wasn't sure a) I'd finish it and b) I already have a UFO for my bed.

You mentioned customer quilt. Do you do that full time or for extra cash? I'm guessing you use a long arm machine. I would love to get one but I don't make enough quilts right now to justify it and, if I did, where would I put it in my 1200 sq. ft. house that's already filled with 30+ years of "stuff"?

I'm really looking forward to seeing how everyone makes something different from the same pattern, even if it's a kit. Barb.
