Hey Yawl,
I just finished a flannel quilt and I am confused about what type of backing to use. Should I use a flannel backing or a regular cotton backing. Help!

I read a wonderful article by Leah Day who quilts with her feed dogs up. This is interesting to me because I have so much trouble with free motion and having my feed dogs down. I am going to try this and report my progress back to you'll. Here is the link for her article http://www.leahday.com/art-dropfeeddogs/
If you free motion with your feed dogs up, please let me know if you like it better than with the feed dogs…

Hey Yawl,
I am piecing a blue jean quilt. The jean fabric is pretty heavy and I have decided to use flannel to back it. Do I need batting or will it be too heavy? I've read a lot of things about this on the internet, but I need advice from my expert neighbors. What should I do?
Thanks,
QuiltMan.

Hey Yawl,
I know that I am late on this issue, but is anyone sending quilts to the displaced families in Oklahoma? If so, I want to help. Does anyone have an address that I can send them to and a contact person?
Thanks,
QuiltMan

Let me know if you have any questions!
For the military quilts, we typically make them in patriotic colors and/or prints because we were told that was what is preferred (by the recipients). For quilts in other colors, those get donated to the Quilts for Kids organizations. Many of our kids quilts are donated to kids with cancer in the area and sometimes, quilts have been shipped to other areas when a need was expressed by other quilt group organizers. I will gladly send you information about the Mother Seton Parish Quilting Angels of Germantown, MD.
Hi Quilt Man,
Thanks for the compliments on my patriotic quilts. I work with a Quilts of Valor group in Germantown, Maryland. The quilts get donated to VA hospitals, returning and wounded vets, and even get sent to a camp in Afghanistan. I love piecing and making the tops, and my very old sewing machine does one thing well - sew straight lines. We have some women in the group with fancy quilting machines and longarm machines so the actual quilting in done by them. We work in a very large parish hall of a church. The group has been in operation for going on six years (and Quilts for Kids are also made, going to various pediatric cancer units). I joined in August of 2010. We have people donating fabric, blocks and even unfinished quilts. We don't turn anything away! If you would ever like to donate one of your fabulous quilts (or even blocks for that matter), I would be more than happy to send you information about the group (including the website). I am very passionate about supporting our troops!
I love your work Quilt Man!! I can tell that you are really hooked on quilting/sewing. I have been bitten by the quilt bug since 2008. I love it too!!
Keep on quilting!!!
Your work is impressive!
