About Me
I took my first quilting class in 1996 in Eagle River Alaska. I was hooked. I can't say that my first quilt would of won any ribbons, but it's proudly hung on my wall as a reminder of how far I've come. I had a few bumps in the road of my life during the last few years, but this is my year to get back into one of my favorite passions, quilting. I also do stained glass. I've lived around the world you could say. My husband is retired from the Air Force. From California, to Okinawa Japan and then onto Alaska. Now in NY, but were looking towards New Mexico as a final retirement place for us. We vacationed there a few years ago and fell in love with it. My son Jason is 30, he lives in Florida and my daughter Megan is 24, she lives in Minnesota.

Enough about me, back to my "QUILTING"

Hi Diane. I did check out the "Sweet and Sour" fabric line...so pretty! Now I just need to convince myself I don't need more fabric. ;-) I have one more baby quilt that I have to finish up this year (baby due in January) that I have to buy fabric for, but other than that I probably shouldn't be buying fabric! I bought a bunch of fabric at the Gloversville sewing center in February and I haven't been able to touch 2/3rds of it! At least the quilts are planned, I have the fabric and its washed so I just need to find time to sew it! I like the quilt you made in the blues and tans. I bought the sample of the Indigo 2 line of fabrics but I haven't figured out what I want to do with them yet. Any ideas for fat quarter uses?

We're "lost" Alaskans too--our family spent two great years in Homer before funding was cut for our mission church and we had to return to the lower 48. When we reached an early retirement for my DH, we considered moving back, what we really wanted to do, but we realized that with health issues, aging parents, and kids in college still needing us, it just wasn't meant to be. But when someone says home, we still think of Alaska.

Hi Diane. I'm located in Scotia, NY (just west of Schenectady). Thanks for the compliment about my work. I know I still have a lot to learn but quilting is both fun and relaxing from me and VERY different from my day job, which is a good thing. ;-) I took a look at your photos on your page and they are spectacular! It looks like you've done a lot of wall hangings and table runners and the colors are awesome!

Thanks for the comment on our new Goldwing. I envy your mom getting to ride year around. In Iowa we only get to ride from late April to October. Not nearly long enough for me. We do take some longer trips to other states (actually have visited 45 of the 48). We rode to the NE section of the country in 2008 and loved the scenery and roads. New England was much prettier than I imagined. Loved the fact that everything is so old!! Homes dating back into the 1700s!!! WOW!! Here if something is early 1800s we think it is really old. Loved looking at your slideshow - nice quilts - lovely colors and designs.

Sweet & Sour Fabric - Yummy

Good morning. Let me just say how much I love, love, love, the new "Sweet & Sour" fabric. It's just looks so yummy, adorable, bright, scrumptous, I could go on and on........Ok, now that I've got beyond that, I'm looking for any reviews or comments from anyone that's used the Amy Butler software. I've had my eye on it for quite awhile and the images that CT has posted from it are beautiful. Of course the fabric that she used is lovely, that makes a good impression. Now, it's even on s… Continue

She loves the quilt!!!!

I just got a phone call from my mom in California and she loves her birthday quilt. I'm glad she's thrilled with it. I told her I sweated buckets making it, literally. I'm still wearing my brace from the fusion surgery and the weather has been rather warm. My mom has been "39" for quite a few years now and I always decorate the mailing box with "Happy 39th Birthday" all over it. She gets quite a kick out of it. As for the quilt, it's a kit I bought from CT. I've made several of their kits… Continue

Stained Glass

Hello everyone. What a beautiful day here in NY. I've not posted in awhile. A few of you quilters here know that I'm recovering from my 2nd spinal fusion surgery in less than a year. This has been a tough one. With all this sunshine I'm starting to feel better and stronger day by day. I guess I'm starting to feel like my old self when I've got 3 quilts in different forms of progress all over the house. I wanted to share with you my other passion, and that's stained glass. I've been doing in for… Continue

Suggestions for Quilting Top

Hello everyone. I've attached a photo of a quilt top that I would appreciate any advice on quilting. I've been practicing on other scraps of material, but I just don't know what type of designs to try. This is a pattern from Batik Beauties by Laurie Shifrin called " Trip to Indonesia". This quilt measures 38 x 38 inches. She used alot of darker blues and I can't really tell how she actually quilted the top. If you remember my initial post, I'm very intimidated by free motion machine quilting. I… Continue

Free-Motion Machine Quilting

Hello, I just joined the group today. I've been a quilter for years. I love the look of beautiful machine quilting. I seem very limited with the basic stitch in the ditch and outlining. I am purchasing the Bleeker Street Fair pattern on this site. I want to acheive the look of that but I feel intimidated. My goal is to learn. I would appreciate any suggestions or possible books and or tools that would help me. Thank you, Diane
