Picture Rail

Posted on February 1, 2009 at 6:54pm 4 Comments

When I bought my 1922 Bungalow in July of last year, I knew it had all original wood floors and wide, dark wood work. I knew the wood work included picture rail. I knew that I was a quilter and that I liked displaying my quilts on the walls. But I had no idea how all these facts were going to come together.

Well, picture rail is a wonderful thing if you like to display quilts on the walls. Unlike my previous house, I can hang quilts of any size without putting holes in the walls. I can… Continue

How is your school year going so far? At least Halloween is over, and maybe the kids will settle down again--at least until December and the prospects of Christmas get them thinking of other things.

Have you completed your Dear Jane?

Edna,
M-3 was a bear. I have uploaded a .pdf that may help. EQ would not let me put some of the pieces together, so I have moved them to the spot where I needed them to be. a1,a2,a3,b1, belong together. You will see what I mean when you look at the .pdf. The outer units, were sewn on using 'y' seams and I hand stitched in the center square, i1. Hope this helps, I like your idea of "why". Did you ever find the hoop? Have a great weekend.M3 - Fireweed Flower.pdf

Hi Edna,
WOW, you are almost done! The closest I can find on the internet is at
http://www.faedmunds.com/ The item number is: 5915 - 9" X 15" Oval. Mine is actually 11 x15 and the name printed on the inside is Marie Products. There is a listing for Marie Products, on the internet:
Marie Products
1252 W Roger Rd
Tucson, AZ 85705
520-888-9720
But, that's about all I can find. I don't know if that is the same company that made mine. I have had mine for a long time. I do hope this helps. I have really enjoyed the quilting, it's not perfect, but it's not too bad either. LOL

Are you cheering now that school is out? I thought so. When do you start back? We start back way too soon is all I can say. I keep thinking--two weeks of my vacation are already over. I don't know where time goes.

How is Dear Jane coming along?

Just checking in with my "HST quilting friend"! Once again I looked at all your quilt photos and... was again inspired by your workmanship and pattern choices! Such stunning scrappy quilts! :-)
Are you working on any new projects? I am just pecking away at my UFOs as I attempt to cross them off my "TO DO" list! LOL
Hope all is well with you~Marcia

This is the first year in quite a few that my school district has not had a full week off for Easter. I guess we only got two days because Christmas break was extra long. I would have liked more time now though.

There is not a NI CD, so I have been doing my own paper piecing patterns. I copy the picture, and then cut it up the way I think the paper piecing should be done. I have to remember to add seam allowances in my head, however, because they are missing, of course. I guess I could cut the pieces apart, tape them to a plain sheet of paper, draw seam allowances, and then copy the sheet again, but that sounds like way too much work. So far, I have been able to remember that there should be seam allowances and it is working out well. I would not have even considered doing that if I hadn't seen how DJ was paper pieced. Maybe the same thing could work for Civil War Diaries?

Enjoy your break.

Edna,

You expressed interest in Dear Hannah. I do not have the book, but I have looked at one in a quilt shop. There is more applique on it than on DJ, which discouraged me from buying it. Even after all of the applique on DJ, I still don't feel very comfortable doing it. Your applique stitches are perfect--as evidenced by the basket block you did for the block exchange. It is absolutely beautiful.

I have finished 15 blocks of Nearly Insane, but I really want to do the Civil War Diary Quilt. It really appeals to me somehow. I wish the CD for it didn't require EQ6 to run. Does the book look like the CD is necessary?

My school had last Thursday and Friday off for Easter break (WOW--two days), and I'm back at school tomorrow. We have only six more weeks.

Have a good week off.
