About Me
My husband passed away in June 08 so I'm learning to live alone. I lead the quilting group at my church. I also make quilts at home . I finished a quilt for my granddaughter's graduation. She picked out the colors and I desighned the pattern. It's posted in my photos. My next project will be a quilt for my daughter's guest room. i am a slow quilter but will post a picture of it when I get started. I love looking at quilting magazines, catalogs and pictures of quilts on the internet.

Finally!

Tonight I finished some sewing projects that I have insisted (to myself) that I must finish before I can do any quilting! Now I can allow myself to actually quilt instead of looking at the pictures of all the beautiful ones all of you have made! I have a baby quilt to make before I have to get busy making flannel pajama bottoms for my three grandchildren for Christmas. They are 21, 19, and 7. All of them love pj bottoms to lounge in. When they were small I made all their jammies, and now they're… Continue

Plaanting flowers

I had a wonderful day yesterday, although I was very tired when I went to bed. The mother of the baby I babysat last winter went shopping with me to find flowers and other plants to put in the dirt half of my patio. In the afternoon she came over and stared planting them (after lunch). The three kids took naps and then I played with them (5,3,1) while she worked in the garden. The look lovely today--when I got up I headed out there to make sure they weren't figments of my imagination. I'll take… Continue

Wet North Dakota

We've had cold weather which has slowed the snow melt and lowered the crest prediction for our full Red River. Someone described our Red River Valley (bottom of prehistoric Lake Aggasize) as a table top with a scratch going fom the top to the bottom )with the scratch being the Red River. Once it leaves its banks, it spread out far and wide. It was a relief to hear of the lower crest predictions. However, the water will be contained between the dikes for about a week before the water will be behi… Continue

Looking for a new sewing machine

I have decided that I'm going to shop for a new sewing machine. My old one is an Elna with cams for different stitches but it's 30 years old. I would really like to have a machine with an applique stitch, the ability to leave the needle down or up, and the variety of stitches that I've seen on some quilts. Any advice that you have for me would be most welcome. We have Pfaff and Bernina dealers in town so that's where I will begin my search. The lady at the Bernina store repairs her machines and… Continue

Blizzard Day!

I live in Grand Forks ND and am watching the snow blown around outside. The snow packed against the patio doors has clibed up so that the tip of one drift is as tall as the patio fence. We will have a flood this spring when it all melts.

I'm heading into my sewing room to file a bunch of papers (it's a combination office/sewing room). I also have to hem a pair of slacks for my daughter. It won't take long but it's not my favorite kind of sewing to do. She was kind enough to do my taxes and e-fi… Continue

Such kind words, Ginger. Thank you. Perhaps you are right that God finds it easy to answer my prayers.... but I struggle too often to hear the answer -- too much wax in my ears I think! LOL From much struggle and experience I have (finally) learned that life is so much easier to handle (good and bad) when I put it all into God's hands. Life is too short to spend it wasting time being mad or feeling sorry for myself, so I have made the choice to be happy and content. There are so many here on QWU that I would love to spend time with in person.... just so blessed I can do it online in the meantime. Just think of the big quilt party we're going to have in heaven!

I think so, too. Was just previewing lettering and trying to decide if I really have time to embroider it (by hand) by Saturday. I do know she is sentimental and would like the keepsake aspect of having it personalized.

BUT my girl is home from college and I'm happy to be spending time with her! She has taken up crocheting. I may have her quilting one of these days yet. :)

Blessings to you this Thanksgiving season.

DH has a face to face interview today. After 5 minutes on the phone interview they stopped it and said they want to meet him in person. He'll leave his job at 3:30 today and make the 1.5 hour drive to where the interview will be. We feel hopeful about it and just place it in God's hands to direct. Thank you for asking.

Sorry for your lost. I remember years ago you would go to a movie and it would run rather long. Gone with the Wind and some others so they had a intermission. You could get up and walk around a little then return to finish the movie. Talking to others about how you think it will end and so on. Did you ever go to those movies? Your living in the intermission right now. Someday we will all be where there are no more tears. Thanks you for the comments on my blog. Happy Quilting.

Ginger Anne--thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm so sorry about your husband--it's clear that you miss him very much. I admire you for picking up and going on with your life. My very dear MIL has done the same since my FIL died. She is such an inspiration to me because of her courage and enthusiasm. Bless you--Joana

Ginger Anne, Thank you for tthe advice. With only one child, I do try very hard to appreciate all the time I have with her. She's not a teenager yet and still likes to do things with Mom, but that will change in a couple of years I know. Last week was just one of those weeks where it was a madhouse at work and just busy on the homefront. For me that's just a receipe for frustration. I felt much better after my rant. Just the reminder that others deal with the same thing helps me keep a healthly perspective about all the madness.

The kids will love the pillowcases, I am sure.

This is the pattern I've used. It encloses the seams so there are no raw edges.

I make the pillowcases. I use 3 fabrics, the main fabric then two for the "cuff".

This is one I made my niece last year. They are really fun to do.

Thanks Ginger for your very nice comment on the Harley Davidson T-Shirt Quilt. You'd be surprised how easy it really is... As for the T-shirt material, I use an iron on stabilizer for that, otherwise I wouldn't do it either!!
