I bought my first sewing machine when I was in high school. I have been quilting for about ten years and it is my passion. My husband and I are both retired and have three married children and seven grandchildren. I have made a quilt for all of the grandchildren upon their arrival. I also made quilts for all three children and spouses. I enjoy embellishing via machine embroidery.

Well, you sure are way ahead of me on machine quilting! Is your machine a long arm machine? i am glad your kids are close...at least 2 of them anyway. They do seem to add to our lives.....(not too much please)!!! I have finished all 18 blocks of my applique quilt and have cut and bagged the last 18...wow....now I am at a nice phase where I can watch tv and applique again... They are looking good. I have no sewing room and do all this cutting in my dining room so I am anxious to put all this stuff away. Sewing has got to be right up there with the biggest messes in hobbies.....Today the weather is beautiful and I have many little chores I want to do today, of course I also want to applique and read this GOOD book I am in the middle of.......hmmmmm.....some of these chores will have to be put off for tomorrow.....What are you working on know? If you already told me please forgive me as the brain cells are dying quite rapidly...but I still remember my name...I think it is Jean
Hi, yes, I am a Mom so thank you for your greetings...and you too, Happy belated Mothers Day. It is so funny when I first read your description because I too have three married children only you beat me by one in the grandchild department!!! But thats ok......I am still watching the youngest grand daughter and getting her off the school two days a week and thats enough..... I tried to machine quilt a few times but It turned out awful and it was too hard. I just have an old bernina,( wonderful machine),...I have done it all by quilting on my lap in front of my tv... What do you do with the rest of the quilt when you are sewing the middle on the machine? I bought a 'walking foot' which didn't walk very well....Do you have a special embroidery machine? Where do you send your quilts to be machine stitched when they are too big for you? Questions, question, questions.....Do you see your kids often? I am lucky enough to have had them all settle within an hour of me. I know that is not always the case. I am just starting to add the embroidered flourishes into the sixteen or so blocks I have finished so far......looks pretty good so far. Well, I will look forward to your next comments.....Jean
Hi, You don't like to hand stitch? We make a good pair..! I am still appliqueing and today i used a piece of batik fabric and found it much eaier to use. It frayed a lot less. hmmm Your basket designs sounds like it will be nice and bright when it is finished. Are you going to hand quilt it? Talk soon.....jean
Hi there...I am using a big collection of fat quarters that I got from Keepsake Quilting when I belonged to there club. I joined the medley of the month from Timbleberries and the color (?) of the month club..It was fun but after a year I quit and joined Netflix movie program. Now I can watch movies while I qork on my quilts. Because of the wide variety of fabrics I have I just bought a white solid and am using whatever color on the quilt. I'm tring to match (sort of) the colors that Rossman used. I know mine will look way different than hers but then it will be more mine. I just fell in love with the book when I saw it and it recharged my quilting desire once again....She used black background but I have no idea how she could since I am always tracing the designs by laying it on the pattern in the book. I have a friend in florida who is going to try it on black. I'm glad I chose white. I have never done anything this complicated but I guess it is learn as you go. I have to stay away from the blocks until I get some housework done today...yuk...well, now I have never done a basket quilt although the idea sounds good. How many baskets are we talking about? Do you prefer machine applique over needle turn? I worked in a sewing factory for about 7 years so I try to stay away from the machine if possible!! Are you using solids or prints and different basket designs? Well, I must end now and get out the dreaded vacuum, maybe I can get all the housework done in fifteen minutes..hahahah..Jean
Well Hi Glenis! I am on the NW side of Chicago near the harlem Irving Mall....Thank you for your compliments on my quilts. I wish you had some pictures too. Right now I am in the middle of doing an applique quilt called Affairs of the Heart. It is from a book by Aie Rossman. It is really a turn on. Each block is in 4 quadrants....by the time I get to the fourth, they look really good!! I shall add you as a friend to this page and hoope you do the same....
