Marking Scrappy Quilts for Hand Quilting ---HELP!

When I first started making quilts, I bought the Flynn Multi-Frame, which worked great for smaller quilts. Those early quilts were done with a freeform meandering pattern, so I didn't have to mark them in advance. They were quick and easy to do, but not as satisfying to complete after a while. I soon found myself wanting to make larger quilts, followed quickly by the desire to hand quilt them. There's just one small, but aggravating, problem...marking my quilts.

I've been hooked on scrappy quil… Continue

Is one more quilting project really too much?

As I mentioned in my last (and first LOL) blog entry, I have made quite a few quilt tops in the past six months. More specifically, and excluding the ones that are completed, I have three quilt tops awaiting batting and backings, one quilt in the process of being hand quilted, one quilt top that is half done and in need of its smaller hearts and gizzards, and the Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt that is in desperate need of its inner and outer border fabrics being discovered. Because I have so… Continue

A Red Printed Dinner Napkin

It's hard to believe that a small red dinner napkin with tiny hearts and flowers could cause such a change in one's life, but I'm living proof of that fact. While wandering through the craft and fabric section of a local thrift store in late 2007, I stumbled across a small swatch of… Continue

Hi Ilona: What talent you have! I can't believe you've only been quilting for 18 months. Your work is amazing. Glad you joined scrap bags...I can learn a lot from you. Your garden photos are delightful. Is your garden challenged with wildlife? The deer eat anything that blossoms in our yard. We have some fruit trees which are effected by birds if we don't get there first.

Yes, that's a big job and a huge undertaking but very beautiful. You have a masterpiece to have for a very long time. Joyce

Hi Ilona:
I'm usually not on line on Sunday (have to have a day off sometime) but today I had to reach my daughter quickly so decided to check in. Welcome to the Quilt Frame. I loved the story of the red dinner napkin. Isn't it funny how something so small can inspire something far greater. So you caught "the quilt bug" like the rest of us. Well, its far better than swine flu, let me tell you. You will love this group. Something to share every time you sign on. Did you do that Grandmother's Flower Garden by paper piecing? So glad you have joined us. Joyce

hi, Ilona--i'm glad you decided to join Around the Frame. I love your pictures and the story of your first quilt. My family and I drove across Missouri a few years ago. We crossed the Mississippi near Paducah and drove all the way across to the corner near Jane, Missouri. It was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. We drove through an Amish area near dusk one evening--it made a memory that will last forever. I would love to go back--maybe someday.

Welcome Ilona. Your quilts are beautiful. I also enjoyed reading your first blog, where that one piece of fabric just called out to you and inspired your quilting journey.

What a wonderful story. You are definitely in the right place in this community. So many of us not only quilt but do other crafts. Yes, I agree this passion can become an obsession. What's wrong with that?

Happy quilting!

Beautiful quilts! Welcome to the web site. My maternal grandmother was born and raised in Missouri (near Buffalo). She came to the Nebraska sandhills in 1918 at the age of 16 to cook and keep house for her brother on his homestead. Soon after, she met and married my grandfather who was homesteading here at that time as well. That really has nothing to do with quilting or anything, but she was always proud of her Missouri heritage. Actually she was the one who taught me to do handwork, so I guess she is indirectly responsible for my quilting/crafting obsession. :0)

As I hit "add comment", your photo of cilantro appeared. It too is lovely! It has only in the past year or so become one of my very favourite herbs!

Welcome to you, Ilona! A newbie on quilting, me too. I have been doing it almost two years now, but still so much to learn. I keep to the simple patterns because I am not real good at points and getting them matched up right........... working on it!
Have a nice day!
