Happy Birthday!

Posted on November 18, 2010 at 4:49am 6 Comments

I just wanted to wish everyone who shares my birthday a very happy day and a good year ahead. It is only in the 20's here today in Minnesota so I plan to stay inside and and work on a quilt for our new grandson who is expected in January. He already has one quilt but baby and children's quilts are fun so he will have several to play on. Everyone have a wonderful day.

I received my 20 fat quarters of the Antoinette fabric in the mail today. I am so happy with my prize and hope to find a good project to use them. Thanks again Connecting Threads.

If I am doing a queen size, I use a counter I have In my craft room.  I made an ironing pad the size of the counter, about 2x5 feet.  If lap size or smaller I just use my ironing board.  I always start pressing in the middle and work out to the edges.  Today I finished quilting a lap quilt; I had no wrinkles nor tucks on the back side.  Keep trying and you will get it.

Jan, to answer your request how to eliminate pleats on back when quilting your quilt.  I use fusible batting all the time which I buy here from CT.  First, starting in the middle, I iron the backing to the batting; I pin that about every 12 inches and flip it over.  Then iron quilt top to backing starting in the middle.  I pin this about every 6-8 inches; remove pins from back.  If I don't pin, the layers do separate while manipulating the quilt to sew.  I rarely get a pleat on back side when I do it this way.  Good luck.

From one Jan to another!  :)  If you'd have asked me about seamless arcs when I was piecing mine, I'd have said seamless was the way to go!  :D  Thanks for your nice comment.

I went to the Golden Thimble website but did not find the quilt barn BOM.  Do you still have that pattern or know where I can get it?

The car seat organizer pattern I used was Simplicity 2916.  There are several different options you can do with the pattern.
