Just returned from the Minn Quilt show in Duluth. What an incredible collection of quilts! I was inspired and overwhelmed at the same time to walk around and look at all of the quilts and the high caliber of quilting represented. It has become an annual event to share time with a quilting friend who enjoys quilting as much as I do - we take a class, check out all the new gadgets and ideas in the quilting world. Explore and find fun little cafe's along the way. Back to the real world tomorrow…

The buns are rising and it's time for a short break. Getting ready for a house full of people tomorrow. My year for Thanksgiving and my sister will do Christmas. I discovered orange flavored M & M's this year - just made a a pan of mini pretzels, topped with hershey Kisses, warmed enough to be soft and then squish it down with the M & M. This is usually saved for Xmas with the red and green ones but thought I'd try something different. There may not be any left by tomorrow. The…

A couple of weeks ago my sister proudly proclaimed she had done an extensive clean, sort and organization of her sewing room. I teased her that she could come do mine any time. Sure enough, she showed up yesterday at 9 am and we attacked my bombed out sewing room until 5:30 pm. It is now so clean and beautiful I'm going to be scared to mess it up. Some of you would probably be appalled at some of the things I threw out but really, if I haven't used the fabric in the last 20 years, I really…

Last weekend I was lucky enough to take classes from Sharon Schamber at the Indian Summer quilt show in Fargo - what an incredible quilter! We did one designing whole cloth quilts. I'm not sure if I will ever get mine made but it is on my bucket list. I'm caught up on customer quilts at the moment so maybe I can focus on a few projects of my own. My trick or treat quilt got a red ribbon so that was fun to see. I had a vein ablasion done on my left leg this morning so am going to recouperate…

I attended a 2 1/2 day quilting workshop that was wonderful this past week. The machine quilting guild I am in had Sue Heinz from Kismet Quilting come and present and she was really a fun and knowledgable presenter. She does quilting on domestic and long arm machines and her classes are drawing and design focused. It was well worth my time to attend. If anyone is looking for someone to come teach a class, she's your gal. This week I get to head to the Minnesota quilt show - then my two…

and even nicer that you acknowledged my comments. many do not. !!
I had done the yellow brick road and was very discouraged,,so I won't ever try her patterns again,,she is too hard to follow,,,I like Eleanor Burns,,so very much she must be organized,,I can't follow anyone who's designs isn't organized...Was it hard to do,,and to follow her directions?
Hi Jan,
I plan on doing some custom quilting on my stonehenge fabric quilt but not sure exactly what yet. I'd love to see the one you're doing when it's finished. A friend is having heart surgery in a couple weeks so I'm working on making a cheery throw quilt for her. Once I get this finished I'll go back to the other one.
How long have you been doing customer quilts? I got my LA about a year ago and am mostly quilting for myself and family and friend gifts - have done a few for $.
Hi Jan, I read your comment to Pam and then came to your page and have greatly enjoyed your pictures. I love the bright colors that you often use. That monkey quilt is adorable. You caught my attention when you mentioned using minkee (sp?) fabric on the back of a quilt. I have a top I would like to back with minkee, but was not sure how - or if I should - do it? Do you use the minkee as the backing and quilt through it? Or complete the quilt and somehow tack minkee on the back? Any advice? Thanks, Terry
thank you, Jan--I'm so glad you liked my quilt. If I had room, money and technical skill for a long arm, I might give up hand quilting---well, probably not, but......
Thanks for the wondrful comment Jan! Love your #1, 2 , 3 quilt- very striking.
