About Me
I'm a high school history teacher and the single mom of two grown girls. I've been quilting on and off for years, and I knit and do cross-stitch too. I love baking and cooking as well!
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, applique, paper piecing, hand quilting, machine quilting, knitting, gardening
My Pets
Dylan and Kittn (cats) and Sophie (dog) -- they're all Rescue pets
The quilts in my album are all projects that I have lined up, once I finish the SafeHaven quilt. I've got more... but don't have pics to add. Like most quilters, I have more quilting than I do time!

Waiting for it...

... the other shoe to drop, that is! *smile*

Things are going well, not a whole lot of quilting going on, unfortunately, but I have hopes for tomorrow afternoon. Both of my girls have had some pretty neat successes this week, and that's enough to make my week happy!

It's nice for life to feel settled for a change -- not quiet, not boring -- but feeling kinda predictable. For me, that's a great feeling...

Another Friday Evening

Things are looking up!

Even though next week is the end of the first quarter of school (WHAT?! You've gotta be kiddin' me!) and I'll be busy with my red pen, the weather is kinda gray and icky, and I'm TIRED... it's still been a good week.

Allison started her new job and is enjoying it so far. It's wonderful to see her getting out and doing something that makes her smile! Her fiance is visiting and yes, obviously that's perked her mood up, but the job has been a huge step forward. He has been… Continue

Almost a Month?

Hello everyone...

It's been a while since I've been here. I wish I could say that it's because I've been quilting my spare time away, but such is not the case. We've been dealing with more illness here -- my daughter Allison had a really persistent infection while she had the kidney stent in, and since it has been removed, she is a lot better. She also has recently diagnosed bipolar disorder, and all of the stress with being physically ill made her symptoms worse. After readjusting her medicati… Continue

Friday

This was one long week, but at last it is over and I can kick back a little bit. I do plan to do some grading, but I think I need to clean the house first... not my favorite chore, but it has SO got to be done! This is why I get so little quilting done during the school year. Too much that HAS to get done, and not nearly enough time...

Yesterday, my daughter and I went to a little place not far from here that we just love. It's a little German bistro place that reminds me of our time living out… Continue

Update on My Daughter

A few of you have been staying in touch with me about this, so I wanted to make sure you knew what the update is. Yesterday, my daughter had her out-patient procedure to insert a kidney stent -- and it was totally successful. She's a lot more comfortable now, and hopefully, this will do the trick! She has a job interview scheduled for this afternoon, and I'm driving her over there -- but will stay in the car while she does the talking. Our joke is that since she's not allowed to drive or sign im… Continue

Our redistricting was over/about a new High School but the redistricting encompassed 40% of the county because they went all the way down to Elementary level to do this.
This was became a balancing act between who the school was really built for (to address which current school's overcrowding) and a community that thought they lived close and they deserved the new school.
This was supposed to be voted on in early June. Due to some "things " that happened along the way the vote just finally happened Wednesday night.

The new avatar is from our school website ;-) We just had our school board vote on a redistricting that affected 40% of our county... It's a little celebration of sorts.

Those are excellent questions! I do know that the forms are available online -- I've seen the links when looking for a different form that I needed. One problem with online submission is that we cannot assume that everyone has access to the internet. In the county I teach in, not all of our parents are proficient in English, so there are forms available in Vietnamese, Korean, Farsi, Spanish, Hindu, Arabic, etc. I know that the forms are actually kept in a 3-ring binder in each of our subschools (organized by grade level) -- putting some personal information online can be potential violations of confidentiality as well (or so we've been told). So there are a lot of issues with these things... not to mention the fact that it always seems that the parent you need to contact most has incorrect information on those forms...

But I do like the idea of having kids fill out some of the information! I think I might try that and see how it works!

We want to know why in this technology day and age we can't go online fill them out one time and have it go to the separate schools for each child? I'm thinking prying them back from students is equally as bad as filling the forms out. Maybe you should make them fill out as much as possible in class and let their parents fill out the rest... Then since they helped slave away filling them out maybe they will turn them in. (This is coming from a High school parent , I'm not that old either, who asked if I can fax the doctors note in because my DD never manages to get them to the office either)
Have fun when school starts.

Unfortunately, Allison couldn't get an appointment until next week. Because she's not in a lot of pain right now, it's fine, but if she starts with the really severe pain again, then we'll push for an earlier appointment. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for these things to clear unfortunately. But at least we've been through it often enough that we know how they work these appointments...
