About Me
Love quilting, but worry about the outcome. This usually keeps me from trying new quilting skills. Usually stick with piecing and straight seams, although just recently made a wall quilt and did some iron on applique and loved it. Grandmother to 8 and very busy babysitting a lot!!!! So, when I can't get to my machine, I enjoy hand quilting pre-printed panels (cheaters) and make wall quilts or table toppers. Look forward to hearing from quilters. Most of my friends enjoy crafts, but they're not really into quilting.
Hobbies and Interests
quilting, machine quilting, knitting

More snow

Hi everyone. 8 inches of snow already here on Long Island, and it's still coming down. Hubby and friend left for week of skiing in Utah, but now sitting at Kennedy airport, flight cancelled and going nowhere. He wouldn't listen. told him this could happen, but what do I know????? He could have been sitting in a hotel room at Kennedy waiting for news of a flight out, but instead sitting in airport eating pretzels. I'm all set for a fun day of quilting. Schools all closed here, and so many people… Continue

The Duffy Bag

Hi everyone, just finsihed a great tote bag that is huge (about 29 x 42 not counting the handles). It was designed by one of the members, Barb Duffy. It's just what I was looking for for carrying my cutting board, rulers, etc. to class. I've posted pictures of my version of the bag on my pictures. Sorry, but I didn't know if I could attach the photos right here. Anyway, I'm so excited and can't wait to show it off at my next class. Thanks again, Barb! Going out to lunch now with girlfriends. Need help with Grandma's Garden

Hi everyone, Happy Daytona Race Day to those of us who love Nascar. I'm trying to get together a few hand quilting items to work on during the race today, and I came accross 2 Grandmother's Garden sections that I did. I must have had an idea in mind when I started them, but can't remember. they are done in St. Pat's fabric, so I'm now going to use them as part of a small table runner or wall hanging. My idea is to applique them on a background square and add sashing and borders. All simple enoug… Continue

It's a bright sunny day

Hi everyone, Just happy to say the sun is bright, the sky is blue and it's getting warmer here on Long Island. No sign of snow today!!!! Taking a little computer time this morning while my little grandsons are happily playing with trucks. After seeing all the great photos you've all posted, can't wait to get to some quilting with some bright, cheery fabric. The bunnies and jelly beans aren't too far away! Have a happy day wherever you all are. - Jane

New York Quilter

Hi everyone. I'm not really new to quilting, just timid. Love the idea of quilting and have a big to do list, but can't find enough quilting time in the day. But when I do, boy it's like floating away on a vacation!!! Look forward to hearing from fellow quilters and sharing it all.

Hello Suffolk County: Know it well. I grew up on LI, Nassau County actually but the island isn't all that big. I haven't been there in years.

City Quilter on West 25th Street is fabulous and they've got great classes. Then there's Pearl in SoHo, can't remember exact street. It's a tad precious. P&S on Broadway between Franklin and Leonard Streets is great for stuff. They carry some quilting fabric, along with yarns and notions and it's great for browsing. I was talking with some friends recently about how all the department stores (I particularly remember Macy's and Bloomie's) used to carry fabric and notions. Sure do miss them.

Hi Jane, I live in Huntingon Long Island. Do you live nearby? I machine stich my quilts but hand quilt them, just personal preference and I don't need to carry a machine with me.

Hi Jane - Thank you. Making these quilts makes me feel that I have a purpose. I love your outfit. Do you belong to the Red Hat Society? You did a great job on the bag. I have to get some pictures uploaded.

Hi Jane, thanks for you comment on my quilt. The blocks are just square in a square. Very quick . Sometimes I like to spend a of time planning a quilt but sometimes I just want to get going and get it done. I love that feeling when you finish the last bit of binding and it's DONE!!! No wonder quilting is addictive. Have a lovely day.

can't take credit for the lightbox idea, and like you when i read it, it seemed so simple. you can inagine the year I asked for an18"square piece of plexiglass for christmas. my daughter thought it was a great idea, because she's a quilter too, so she can use it to. jo

The best thing to do for photo quiltsis to use a simple pattern and fabric noting to busy so the pictures can show through and EQ printables is the best to use for this . They are a bit more expensive but well worth it.

Jane, I added two pictures to my blogg. We had a fiber arts show in Pahrump this weekend and the two pictures I added were just a couple of the gorgeous quilts there. The cat quilt was all done in needle turned applique and the picture just doesn't do it justice. The cats almost look real. The other picture is of a wall hanging size crazy quilt. It was made with upholstery fabric instead of regular cotton fabric. It is just gorgeous and the two ladies who did these quilts are really artists. Some of us quilters are just awesome. Enjoy the pics. :)
